Been looking at trying this for the last couple of years, I have a new hunting bow this year and kept my old pse nova for this reason, But I know absolutely nothing about the sport and dont know anyone that does.

#1 do you need a boat or can you do it off shore? I do not own a boat and even though I desperatley want one, its not in the cards for a while. I live a few blocks from the Grand and there is a little park on an island downtown that people are always fishing for carp. I am not sure I would want to go strolling around with a bow down there as I am not sure of the legality of it, nor do I want to upset people. I am sure that I could find some other spots fairly close by that I could do it however.

#2 if you already own a bow, how much money does it cost to get the misc. items needed?

I've only done it in a boat but I hear people talking about wading for them... All I have is a twenty dollar reel and a couple $10 - $15 arrows. Make sure you get arrows with a slider that you tie the string to.

You can get a kit for like $100 that is sweet but the twenty dollar one works if you pull them in by hand.

I shoot them from a boat and from shore but I have a AMS retriever and a couple of 15$ muzzy arrows and it works great

ya strap a reel to your bow...get some arrows and go to town!! not sure what there is in your area...around here we got more marshes than we kno what to do with...easily shootable from shore or a boat...

few quick comments....

ALWAYS use the ams safety slides...use a release if u value your fingers!!
other than that have fun
