Took a quick drive out to the lakes this evening just before dark. Guys fishing on every lake I drove by. One shanty on Evens, guys on snowmobles at Sand said they had been all around the lake. One shanty out in front of the launch and several lanterns all the way across on the other side of the lake. Wamplers had about 50 to 70 guys ot there. Talked to some guys coming in they said people were catching pike but all they had were wax worms and didn't do well. Said there was 6 to 8 in of ice and there were snowmobles running around there too. I figure as many people that were out there they must be getting crappie on minnows at or just after dark. By the time I got up by Allen and Wolf it was to dark to see any fisherman but there were cars parked at both places. Going out now to hook up the quad trailer be out there somewhere tomarrow. Good luck to any one who gets to go.

I'm going to try to make Wamplers on the 1st or the second. Any lakes in the area better than that for the Panfish??

Trushot, I can not tell you any better lake for panfish than Wamplers. Even Wamplers can be tough though. As many people that were out there today though I can't beleive their not catching fish. I have caught good Bluegill and Cappie there and some times perch, the perch run a little small though. Other good lakes, Sand for perch and crappie, Devils for everything although the pearch are though for me to catch I have seen a few keepers other people caught. I seem to do better there in the boat but will never give up ice fishing that lake. It's my faverate local lake. Also can be good gills at Wolf, long walk though as specialy climbing the hill coming back. I havn't been to Wolf since I got the quad a couple years ago. I kinda don't like parking on the side of US 12. And Little Stoney can be a producer at times for Crappie and perch

I hear ya Kemo22, I was out on Wamplers for a short time this afternoon too. I got the same as you dinks! Man, As many people as were out there Sat. I was really suprised they were not biting. Of course they probably were on Sat. and shut down on Sun when I was there. Oh well thats why they call it fishin not catchin!

I've been out on Wamplers 3 times, and caught only dinks also. Not sure what the deal is, I've done well in the past. Fished Sand last night, managed to get about fifteen gills and crappies, nothing of great size though. One bit of advice-don't lose your keys in the dark on the ice! Luckily captain took me to get them-Thanks. Ice was good-about 7-8 inches-until this rain screws it up. Good luck

Yesterday on South Lake, me and another guy caught around 50 panfish with the majority being crappie. About 20 of them were keepers. We were using the ever colorful eurolarve and spikes. We were fishing in about 8-13 feet of water about a half a foot off the bottom. Hopefully it cools back down so I can get back out there. Good luck everyone in your fishing ventures!

How is fishing going in the Irish Hill's area?! Haven't heard any reports lately and I was just wondering if you guys were still getting out there. Good luck!

Has anyone heard of any pike/'eyes being caught at Sand recently? How about pike at Wamplers? Looking to get out on the 22nd, and this will be my first icing trip up there. Thanks!
Any lakes in that area have any decent sized perch in them?

Are you sure sand has Pike ??? Have lived in the area for many years and this is the first I have heard of it...
The bite is slowing compared to how great it has been over the last couple weeks in the area.
We have been doing decent on the Pike at Wamplers. We have doing good on the gills on almost every lake we have hit until last weekend, bite turned south! Only managed 2 Big gills (9 and 9.5) and a small perch on Sunday(7.5).
Most of the lakes have decent perch, the hard part is finding the school ;)

Yes, Sand has pike. Buddy has lost 6 at the ice this season on there. Thta's why we are plannin on going up ;) Also, had another gentleman PM me about some info on that lake, and he mentioned the old timers fishing for Pike.
Do you know anything of Wamplers? Any bite going on in there?

Learn something new every day :) Guess I will have to throw a tip-up out next time, maybe this weekend...
In January the bite was pretty good, I was normally getting 10-15 Gills and 2-3 pike per evening...
I haven't hit wamplers in 2 weeks, the last I did it was a bit slow. The reports I have heard from friends is that it is slow... Never know though until ya try.

We used to do good on Sand for northerns. I have one on the wall above me right now that went 12 lbs. Caught it about 15 years ago when I lived there. Some big walleye in there too, just real hard to find.
