According to the meeting Parks and Rec approved the motion, but I don't know if it is officially legal. I've heard a $10 permit is required though. Anyone got info?

Yup, just got off the phone with em, 10 $ permit, you can get it right at their office 5045 stanley rd, which is right off genesee rd on the south side of the bridge before you go over the lake. Covers you for shooting on all waters which lie withing the parks.
Man if my daughters didnt have recitals all weekend I'd be all over going out this weekend.
Thank you for this forum!!!

Were they able to out law bow fishing on the lake just due to the fact that it was privately owned? Wouldn't think they'd be able to other wise. Just wondering about the other lakes I fish on.

First time on this site in a while and holy crap, theres a bowfishing forum. I have been doing this for a couple years now and never heard about buying a permit to shoot carp. I was out there last weekend. Im going tomorrow (sat) with a friend. Ill have to check into the whole permit thing though.

It hasn't been legoal on Mott because it's a Gen. County park, but they voted to make it legal. From what I've heard, DNR jut looked the other way. But, the $10 permit is required to legally carry a bow or firearm on their property for "hunting". With how hit Genessee is for money, I'd reccomend getting one so they don't slap a fine on you. I'll be getting my permit today.

I thought its illegal to hunt on any gen co park unless noted.... but bowfishing is well, fishing. I dont see how they can make you have a permit?

Permit is required simply because you are carrying a weapon...It's just another reason for the parks and Rec. to make money (hence the reason they charge $13 to get in a draw there for duck season...screw that, I can hunt all the other state game areas like fish point, shiwassee, nyanquin, etc. for waterfowl for $13 a YEAR!)...It's really stupid if you ask me, esp. since they want to get rid of carp...Why should they charge us to get rid of their problems???

I called the gen co parks office to day and they do, I tried to talk to a ranger to clairify the law and where it applies because no one owns the water, but all i could get was a rangers voicemail. I read nothing in the fishing handbook that mentions a permit to bowfish on mott lake. May 1st to aug 15 in inland nontrout.

The $10 permit is not to bowfish, it is to carry a bow within park boundaries.

So your telling me that if a buy this permit i can walk around with my bow on any park land and not get in trouble? how does that work?

It's open. There is an annual $10 permit for county residents and a $20 out of county residents. As stated, the park office is on the corner of Genesee Rd and Stanley. This comes straight from the mouth of a Park Ranger, my cousin who works nights and at times is on Mott at night on the East end AKA Carp waters. SO, they will be checking permits especially with the spawn in pretty much full swing. Keep in mind, this is an ANNUAL permit not a daily like the waterfowl draw.
