Fished Chemung from about 9:30 to 1:00 today. Ice is good, at least 4 to 5 inches in most places. Fishing was slow for panfish but we managed seven keepers. We moved around alot but never ran into any large schools, but did a couple "you should have been here yesterday" stories. We did see numerous pike caught on tipups and a couple appeared to be legal. I tried out the new video camera (OVS 500) and had some fun watching the fish come in and hammer the bait, as well as seeing an occasional bass and one pike which didn't want to leave the area. Those cameras are too much fun.

338Bar,

I fished Lake Chemung today also. I was there from about 9:30am - 2:00pm. I left with 22 keeper crappies. I started culling the small ones from my bucket around noon. They came in waves and when they were there they were pounding the minnows. The I was getting bigger fish with bigger minnows. I never cought a one on waxies.

There was a guy next to me that got a pike on a tip up that was 38 inches (I had a tape) and must have weighed a good 10-12 pounds. Very fat, very big.

I have enough fish to make it through the warm spell.

Nice job on the crappies hunt4ever. One guy came by us and mentioned a 38 inch pike but I thought he said it was caught yesterday. I may have not heard him correctly or more likely stopped listening when he said the size of it. We were probably fishing within a few hundred yards of each other if you were fishing on the side of the lake where the public boat launch is.

I'll be there around eight with my brother. And you should have "been there yesterday". If it was the same pike I saw the guy said it was 36 inches, mm must have grown. Stop and say Hi. I have a black chapperell.

Hope to see yea.

I drove by Chemung on the 31 st and looked to be all opened up? Down by the public access is it still frozen? The main lake looked to be open water from Grand river access site.

my friend jay (L0ngbeard) and i hit chumung yesterday, i didnt get out till about 230 or 3 cause we fished crooked lake with one small pike. at chumung we did ok we got 15 gills and 4 crappie on wax worms and tear drops it seemed like orange was the color. i seen one guy that had a few 30 pike on the ice. i also got to use the camera and it was cool as h*** most of the time you didnt even know you were getting a bite but you could see them taking the bait. so i am off to chumung right now and im taking some sucker minnows this time to try and get some pike. and yesterday the pike i caught came on an airplane jig with no trailor and here are pics of yesterdays catch.

Hmmm... When I posted this I said the fishing was slow. I should have added "but that's only because I suck at it". Glad to hear others doing well there. We will be out for the saturday afternoon bite somewhere left of the launch, and should be there around 2 pm. I hope to see some of you there. I'll look something like the attached photo, complete with a puzzled look on my face. I may be carrying a 338 with balistic tips, if the fish don't want to bite. Bang! Bite that fish.

perchjerker, I was hoping to get 'em cleaned and in the frying pan faster that way. You know, save the drive time. :D

Can't touch this, your best bet is to get them in a jpg (internet ready) format and in a small size, less than 100K is best and "Steve" friendly. Try the "How to Size Your Pictures for the Internet" FAQ right on the main "pictures" page to get you started and go from there.

CTT, 400 by 300 hundred is better when resizing cause the size of the pic is different with the program you use.

Well we got out there at about 1:30 a little earlier than yesterday we were about the middle of the lake between the launch and the south shore. we caught a few dinks at first and then some better size ones came threw we only moved once and it was 20 feet closer towards the launch we caught about 100 gills total and 25 keepers and then i threw on a minnow and grabbed two crappie and we lost about 5 and we didnt stay to long after dark. We also had tip ups out with chubs but with no luck. alot less people out and one guy said that in the am he got a nice perch and a few gills the perch was 11 in so and in the evening he didnt do as well the was in the same spot all day. so in the morning go closer towards the south shore and the move towards the launch. the came all on orange tear drops and waxies, the guys we talked to said that he lost two walleye at the hole. if i left anything out im sorry just let me know. here are the pics.

I may try it also one day this weekend also. Sounds like the makings of a mini-outing. I need more perch for my perch dinner but want to try some crappies and something different from metro. Plus the crowds at metro will be heavy on the weekend. I can save that for Monday.

I also bought a map book containing lakes for Washtenaw, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, Genesee, Lenawee and Hillsdale Counties. A great book showing lake depths, fish plantings and locations. I located a lake near Chemung that also looks good to try also.

Where should I stop for bait if I do go?

You should come Saturday I'll have my 12 yr old daughter and 13 yr old nephew with us. As for bait get it at bottom line or something cause its hard to get it out that way.

For those of you in need of bait. There is a bait store on Old 23 and Grand River. I think it is called Midwest..... They are in the little strip mall on the north east corner, behind the 5/3 bank. They have waxies, minnows, tackle and a nice black lab. They guy who is in there is Scott, real nice.

KenC your PM box is full. I bought the map book at Gander Mt in Utica. It was the last of it's kind but the publisher has a website
www.sportsmansconnection.com. I haven't checked it out but you should be able to order the book from them.

I may head to Chemung on Saturday. I have to wait to take the kids bowling so I wouldn't be out until the afternoon (1pm or later).

If anyone is looking for bait in the Belleville area try out South Street Tackle. They have crappie/perch shiners, walleye shiners, and pike chubs. Along with waxworms, mousees, spikes and wigglers. The waxworms are offered in bulk also. Open everyday.

Hey, will be going around there this weekend. What do you think is a hotter lake right now for crappies, and gamefish, perferrably walleye, pike, and bass, Chumung lake, or wolverine lake, I've heard great reports for both of theose lakes. I looked at the depth chart, wolverine lake looks to be more of an ice fisin' lake.

As far as game fish, Bass is outta season, closed on the 31st.
Talked to a guy on Wolverine tonite, was not doing much of anything.

If you guys can stand some company, I'll be out to Chemung on Saturday around 12 or so, I will have the FRS on channel 3 May or may not have the shanty, but I will be there regardless.

Hope to see some of ya there.

burbotman , Take 23 to 96, West on 96 to Grand river exit, West on Grand river. when you get to a stop light with a boat dealer on the corner, (Hughes Rd ) turn Right. Follow that about 1/2 mile launch is on the left.

I'm going to be heading out there this afternoon. Sorry to ask this of you guys, but can you guys possibly pick up a few extra minnows, as I don't know the area at all and last time i was in brighton it was so much of a mess, i don't want to be wandering around forever due to traffic. I will of course compensate ya. There is also Woodland lake in the area, and i've heard thats pretty good crappie fishing also, if Chemung disappoints.

I'll be driving a green (dirty with mud) Dakota, wearing a black and blue jacket, and jeans (what can I say, i'm a die hard). Don't have a radio, so I'll stop by and say hi to people out there til i find someone from the site.

Thanks,
