I got a late start this morning to the lake. I Didn't step foot on the ice till 8:45. I got into the gills right away this morning size was a little smaller than it had been so I started keeping some 61/2 inchers. I had about 15 on the ice and then the bigger ones decided to bite. I had a tip-up and managed 1 pike that was 28". It still is rather slow for northerns around here. I ended up with a limit of fish by 10:30 this morning I decided to continue gill fishing just for some catch and release. Wouldn't you know it thats when some of the best gills of the day bit. Smallest gill today that I kept was 61/2" the largest 8". I am guessing the best gill today was in the 83/4" to 91/4". Fish bit very agressive and were hitting green teardrop tip waxworms. Get out and enjoy this weekend.

Robert,
LMAO that is good. My wife would kill me if I gave just a fillet away. She will put a fork in your hand if you go for the same piece she wants. My daughter does not share fish well either. Between the two of them I am lucky to get any.
I put the hurt to them this morning.:) I ended up with 22 gills ranging from 7" to 81/4" 3 crappie 2 at 10" and 1 real good one of 14". Time to go fry this mess up for lunch. My mouth is already watering! yum!!

It's good to see ya put the SmaK-DowN on 'em , I think f-f-f-fresh gills sounds a might bit tasty!!!

I have got limits of gills this year on 14 different lakes in Mecosta county this year. I have had only 1 lake not cough up a limit. That Lake the only thing biting was the bass. In a couple hours a guy could have a limit of them. I may catch a limit in a private lake one day and then go to a public lake and get a limit the next. The secret to getting fish out of an other lake is if a lake has very similar traits weeds, depth, water clarity. Many times it will be producing to. I am looking for that ever challenging 12" gill. I seem to get my share of 10" every year but the big dude is still out there! I will get him someday.:)
Robert your to late they have already been laid to rest. My wife invited her parents over and nephew can we say gone in five min.:D Now I have to go and get some more.

I'm going to hafta pick your brain as to where - Steve....
I went to Diamond last nite kinda late - (for one measly perch right before sundown) and again this mornin' --
Got about a dozen gills & crappie , biggest gill about 8 1/2" and biggest speck was about 10 1/2"... still not enough for a fish fry... now the ice got all squishy and I'm wonderin' what to do next -- Fremont isn't safe - Crystal I'm sure isn't either , Robinson has open water -- I don't want to be limited to Hess or Diamond.... I should check on Wabasis & see whats up there -- nice gillyZ in there -- but a cruise....
Craptacular weather!!!!

Robert,
I plan on fishing with another member to the sight new years day. I hope we can get on the lake I plan on taking him to. It maybe very iffy. There could be less than 3" of hard stuff to walk on it is very very deep for its size. You are more than welcome to join us. If you do I will give you a place to meet us at and time.

Mondrella, Have you heard how much ice lake Mecosta has on it at the moment? Not sure if the warm weather has reached that far north or not but around here the pickin's are slim. I need to head north!

Swampmonster,
I have not been on mecosta for about 2 weeks. Last time there there as a good solid 4" of Ice. It made ice here last night so I would guess there is 5 to 6 inches now.
Andy
when I get a chance I will post it in the recipe forum. Right now I am going to do some exploring on another lake. Man I love getting out of work early for a change.:D
