Hey Guys:

Just found two smokers at a garage sale, I've had this type of smoker in the past, and I know the temp gauges are not that accurate. what type of thermometer do you use to watch the temp in the smoker itself. Ive found dial ones, but you have to open the smoker to check it, Will a probe one work for this?

get yourself and electronic one with a remote readout. It doesn't have to be wireless, just have a wire lead to the base with a readout. I use these in mine, and they work great.

I cut a hole in my old cheapo smoker and stuck a cheap probe type unit into the hole and epoxied it into place. One of these, not this exact one, but similar. The pointed end just sticks out in the middle.

The Tell-Tru therms are excellent therms and are very popular with the pros. I have 2 on my stickburner, and one on my drum.

I think this one cost about $ 25, not positive, I won it at an online BBQ contest!. It fits in a small hole (5/16 inch), and fastens on the back with a wingnut.
