Fished Gosling Lake in Livingston County tonight. Tattoo Mike met me but didn't like the ice conditions. Ice was maybe only 3" at best so we fished close to shore. I know there would be fish in the bucket if we could have got out farther. The fishin' Buddy marked some fish, including 4 right below us, but nothing after 3.5 hrs of fishing.

Jessy really wanted to get some fish after watching me come home from Metro with some perch. You could tell he was looking for fish every minute.

I'm heading back to metro tomorrow but don't know what time I'll be there. We have some things to do early so we won't be there until the afternoon bite.

Sorry about the ice Mike. If the lake wasn't isolated and some of that snow were to blow off I know it would be safer.

gunrod,

Great report, I have always wondered about that lake. I have canoed that lake and small game hunted there but never really fished it. I think a lot of the lakes in the Pinckney Rec Area freeze late because they are pretty deep with not a lot of shallow area. I usually ice fish Silver Lake and it is one of the last ones to freeze safely.

Gosling is a great lake since it receives virtually no pressure and carries large pike and crappie.

The problem in the winter is that the lake sits low with hills covered in trees surrounding it. The lake was literally covered with 2" of snow insilating the ice keeping it from freezing well.

Maybe later this winter it will freeze properly for some good fishing.
