This will be my first time at school with a car, and as such, I would like to be able to do some ice fishing. Are there any good lakes within 45 min of Lansing? Anyone?

Lake Interstate is south west of Lansing. It's between Lansing and Potterville right off I- 69 South. Suppose to have a good supply of gills, pike and bass. Sleepy Hollow is east and nort of Lansing. Take 27 north and watch for the signs. It's east of 27 but can't think of the road it's on

Sleepy hollow is also known as Lake Ovid and I think Dave(forgot his handle) knows this lake very well.

Steelyhead:
Like Maximus said, I am pretty familiar with Lake Ovid, which is in Sleepy Hollow State Park. The park is located about 15 miles NE of Lansing. From East Lansing, take 127 North and follow the signs towards Clare, as you pass the I-69 interchange. After you pass the interchange, you will take the second exit (Price Road) and go east. You will see signs for the park both on 127 before the exit, and then once again after you head east on Price. The road winds around a bit, and you will eventually come to a stop sign. After the stop sign, the entrance to the park is about 3/8 of a mile on your left. Once in the park, the road winds around the lake. Most guys take the road all the way to the end and fish out from the boat launch. The lake has been producing both gills and crappie for me this year. As of last night, there was 5" of ice all over. Don't know what will happen with this #$%@!*& warm spell and rain, but I am keeping my fingers crossed for this weekend.
Wild BiLL:
Sleepy Hollow is pretty easy to get to from your place, as well, if you go north on M52 and take one of the county roads west from there: Would suggest getting a map, however.
Hope this helps,
DaveW

Thanks dave, I will fish that lake sometime soon. I fished it once last year with some friends for gills but all I got was dinks, maybe this year I can do better.

Crappie seem to be running bigger this year. Take along some minnows, if you go to Ovid.

Steely-head,
I fish Lake Ovid both summer and winter. It's great at times, but typically the fish run small. Once in a while you can get some good 'gills.
Another good bet is Muskrat Lake just north of DeWitt. Take Old 27 north from DeWitt to Jason Road. Go West a couple of miles and the lake is on the south side of the road. There is a DNR boat launch there. Not a big lake, but there are good sized crappies, gills, and pike there. Also got into some good sized perch a couple of years ago ice fishing. Try night fishing with minnows for the crappies.
Lake Lansing can be hot sometimes as well. There are a couple of county parks with access there. Park Lake in Bath has a county boat launch with access, but the fishing has never impressed me there.
There are more opportunities around Lansing for great smallmouth and pike than anything. The Grand River is one of the top smallmouth rivers in Michigan. I have fished the stretch from the west side of Lansing out to Grand Ledge quite a bit, and the smallmouth fishing is great. Also caught some nice walleye, and a steelhead or two out there.
Hope the info helps.

Ducky:
You catch any good size Crappie out of Muskrat this year.....? I've fished along the north shore, off the point on the SW part of the lake AND in the backwater area off of the east end of the lake and have never caught any decent size Crappie. Any advice?
