How's the ice fishing in Big / Little Bay De Noc? Munising area? Marquette? Western UP?
Heading up In two weeks. Thinking about South Bay near Munising. Any reports will help.
Type of fish, general location, what works best?

For Little Bay Info go to www.littlebaydenoc.com/report.htm. They are doing real well right now. Start a post for Munscong and Eastern Yooper may have an answer for you.

As far as I know, there is no fishable ice on Big Bay just yet. The north end of Little Bay has between 5 and 8 inches of good ice. No problem getting around on 4 wheelers except for a couple pressure cracks. Lots of undersized walleyes being caught all over the bay with a handful of eaters and pigs. Perch fishing has been fairly good so far this year. Fair numbers of perch in the 8 to 11 inch range. Most of the eye's have been caught jigging. Perch have mostly come on small minnows and wigglers.

About 5-6" average of ice on the bay.
Snowmobiles and 4-wheelers are buzzing around and a few perch and 'eyes are being caught... but it ain't real hot yet.
Quite frankly, I think its unwise and unsafe to be monkeying around on Munuscong ice right now. Thru deer season we had a really good cold snap..... but temps have been iffy for making ice these last couple weeks. The Munuscong river has been flowing pretty heavy with all the rains, and the shipping season is still underway. Every time a freighter goes by it draws water out of the bay and then pushes it back in. These conditions greatly weaken the ice. My father in-law was aso out on the bay xmas day and he said there were several pressure cracks.
Best to play it safe and wait until the ice stiffens-up. The fish will wait.
I'll let folks know when conditions improve.

you should be very happy with the hunting and fishing after your move dave. i just moved to houghton to go to michigan tech and its a paradise. i would say most of the hot lakes are in the keewenaw. tapiola is a great spot for big bucks and grouse. have fun!!
