Hey, Im headed out to Round Lake for my 1st time this friday. Just lookin for any hot spots, good choices for lures etc...
thanks.
What are you after, I fish Round usually a couple times a week.
The Bluegill right now are still really deep. We have been getting nice 8-10 inchers in 20 fow suspended 8-12 feet down. I would guess a good week or two before you start to see them on the beds.
Small Mouth and Rock Bass have been on beds for a couple weeks now, and I think the largemouths are just starting. Pretty easy pickens as they are hitting just about anything put in front of them, if you can find em. I think most of the Small Mouth are spawned out.
I have also seen a decent number of Northerns gorging themselves on the Millions of 3-4 inch gills that are in the lake. Had one the other day about jump in the boat going after a small gill being reeled in on a top water spider. Prolly a 30 -35 incher, nice fish. Xraps and blue and silver no. 10 Husky Jerks worked on the outside of the weed beds always seem to produce a few fish.
I think I'm going to be out Weds night again, I'll post a report on how we do.
Oh yea, if you fill out your profile and write a little post about yourself more people are usually more likely to give advice, and help you out.
Welcome to the site.

Thanks. This forum is pretty sweet.
And yeah, I suppose I could be a little more species specific- I'm primarily a gamefish guy- largemouth, pike, musky etc...gills, crappie are ok once in a while if i have a 6pk and my few choice lures aren't producing.
I'm headed out there friday, and I've always done extremely well with jointed rapalas (primarily black/gold or firetiger) as well as big spinnerbaits (white or chart) w/ gold willow blades. My own experience has led me to trust gold over silver.
Anyway, I do have some bigger baits- husky's and xraps so I'll probably throw those for a while based on your recommendation. Do you do better in the shallows? deep? I looked at a map of the lake and it looks like theres an island towards the middle- i was thinking about drifting around that as it starts to drop off..?

.
Have you any idea what the water temp is now and if the gills are still suspended in deep water?
I'm hoping to get out there either thursday of friday if the wind cooperates. :fish:
Im not sure I will let you know tonight. But my guess is yes they are still deep. Not sure on the water temp 60-65 maybe? Its just been getting too darn cold at night to really warm it up ya know.

I like devils alot when it's been hot for a week or so. The pike come alive! I caught one close to forty last year. I caught a 36 ice fishing in december. it's also more fun at night we all the skiers are out in force.

I will be renting a cottage on Round lake the week of July 11th. Can you give us any pointers of where to fish and what can be caught?
