Houghton Lake GIANT CRAPPIES!! 87 in 2hrs

:dizzy: Year after year Houghton Lake continues to produce the biggest Crappies in the State! Last Sunday fished for 2hrs and caught 87 Crappies. 30 were over 13.5 inches and 1.5 pounds each. The largest was a 15.5 inch 2 pound Giant! If you know where to go, you could catch this size one after another all day long. They are in the same spot every year at this time. It has taken years to find them. All I can say is try the Muddy Bay area.

Back in the late 80's, I had a sales route that took me through the area once a week. I stayed at the Houghton Holiday Inn. A local that worked at the hotel told me that I might be able to get a few specks out of the channels. The next couple weeks, I limited each time in about two hours fishing right off the road/bridge. Seemed like they were all at least 12 inches. Easy pickings during the spawn. Did that routine for a couple years. Lucky that the staff at the Holiday Inn never caught me cleaning the fish and dumping the entrails in their (outside) trash can. Can't imagine they would have approved. Kind of nice to get back from work with a cooler full of fillets.

Was up the second week in May this year and we caught a lot of 12 and 13" crappie. My biggest was 14".

Nice catch! That's the great thing with crappie once you find them you always will find them. The struggle is finding them in the first place though.

Yeah there was a few perch and walleye in there also. There is always a few bonuses in there when crappie fishing.
