Does anyone have a recommendation for a fishing charter in Naples or Marco Island, FL? We are thinking of spending some time there during the holidays. Also looking for suggestions on a half day boat rental.

We will be fishing for whatever is biting. Thanks.

Fun area to fish....lots of choices. Your best bet is to check out the FORUMS at www.floridasportsman.com

You can go to the Naples area section in that forum and there is tons of info. to help you....

No sweat. That is a great site. Next to this site that is my next favorite site as I've spent a lot of time in Venice Florida.........and if things were a little different I'd be living there............... I just love surf fishing around Venice. Never know what you're going to catch. My favorite time was standing in the water up to my waist casting a shrimp and catching a 4 ft hammerhead....:yikes:.....couldn't get out of the water fast enough....

I've had good luck down there casting a "saltwater" X-rap off the surf..........

Have fished Naples and Marco alot. Used to go down for spring break every year as a kid, and fished a week straight. Naples pier, you never know what may be in. Sometimes it is slow, others on fire. Hit the span mackeral run a couple times, the hit the blues hard one year. If nothing is hot, you can always catch sheepshead and spadefish off the pilings on shrimp, once in a while a snook on a live shrimp or a live baitfish like a thread, jacks and pompano in closer, sometimes lady fish, and LAST resort, throw some shrimp on bottom, you'll catch something but who knows what. Alot of cats when it the water is dirty. But usually we would throw jigs and sometimes spoons

Backwater around Marco and Rookery Bay you can find snook and reds. Alot of jacks to be had too. See some tarpon once in a while, but it is always neat seeing the dolphin and manatees right up by the boat.

Another great area we used to fish was Sannibel Island. Used to fish blind pass, between Sannibel and Captiva Islands. Caught alot of short snook in there, sea trout, pompano, jacks, lady fish, a couple redfish, ect. Usually would wade out at the pass (which lately is usually sanded over) and cast jigs. At night, we tried throwning some stick baits and caught some more snook. Big thing there (and around Marco too) is playing the tide. We always did best at the pass just as the tide started to go back out.

Charters, we only went on one in all the years down there. It was ok, just bottom fishing for snappers and such. The crew was nothing special, tackle was older and my dad and I actually ended up sharpening our own hooks since they were so dull. That was probably 15 years ago atleast, so I don't have much info I can give on the charters. But there is plenty of fishing to be had on your own.
