Not much to report but I did make it out Dec 24 pm. There was at least 4" of ice and after the sun went down, it was making more. I did manage a couple of Crappie on wigglers but minnows were what they wanted. I was trying out my new Zercom Colorpoint and I think I'm going to like it. Some guys next to me were getting consistent bites and fish but no real size. We should have more ice by this weekend with some cold nights forcasted.

Pike fishing has been REALLY slow at Hess this year. I haven't seen anyone with more than two and most guys have 1, or less. Good luck if you do go and let us know how you did.

Hey - hesslakeman ,
How 'bout sending me a PM , I've been out to your back yard a few times and haven't really done too swell the few times I've been that way.... of course I come in from the pub. launch so I have a loooong walk to any deeper water....
If you were willing to give a few pointers I'd appreciate it , the ice itch needs a good scratchin' !!!!!!!!;)
Thanks !

BTW -- heard anything on Fremont yet???
sfw,
How are the 'eyes doing in Fremont? Fished that lake a lot about 10 years ago, but haven't fished it much since. Wanted to give it a try last winter, but with the lack of ice, never did.

Well , the're in there , Mike - -
I saw quite a few while putting around the shallows this past spring with the new boat , but they don't like being watched too swell (neither do those hawg northerns!)...
When the water warmed up I trolled some spoons & stick baits during the day in 30-40 FOW to no avail... They live deeper than the perch on this lake!!!!
They do come shallow at nite though -- a couple of yrs. ago while ice fishing off the north launch - we were setup in 40 FOW and the wife had a smaller one up to the hole , the sucker winked & HAAAACK-PATOOOEY!!!!! ...B-bye...
I usually fish 20-25 FOW for the perch , but I haven't spent too much time plying the depths , since Freekmont gets about 90' and @ 790 acres there's a buncha water to cover.... I'd say try right off the north launch if ya wanna try fer the walleyes and for perch I usually do good about midway between the launches on the east end in between the two underwater fingers that run into the lake in about 22 FOW , they do pickoff a few eyes around the breaks at sundown now & again in that area too , what can I say?? I like action & 50 perch provide more yanks per hour that a few eyes.... the meat may weigh about the same afterwards too... now if I can figure a way to scare them enough to jump outta their skin ---- I can avoid peeling them all!!!
