All,
My wife and I both have time off this year from 4th of July to Sunday the 12th. We have two toddlers and want to rent a cabin/cottage on the water. Just about anywhere in Michigan is fine with me so we can make the drive easy in a day. Requests below:
- Cabin/cottage on the water
- Pontoon rental (or larger boat) needs to be available
- Local attractions/activities for kids close by (waterpark? beach on lake?)
- Good fishing
Let me know guys.
Mike

Places are small but we got a good deal, had a small kitchen, bedroom, and what not.. right on the water not far from downtown. Owner/manager was real nice had really good ideas about where to go and what not..
Also with little ones see about getting a day pass at great wolf lodge to use thier water park and what not.. Not far away great time for little ones...

consider renting a cabin on houghton lake. there will be a sandy beach and warm water for swimming, boat & pontoon rentals available, plenty to do in the area, and the hosts/owners will be able to point you to the fish--probably plenty of panfish action in july. there are many places/choices available--check them out online and have a great time.

thanks guys... I was thinking about houghton lake ironically. How is the fishing for bass, pike, or walleye in early June?

thanks guys... I was thinking about houghton lake ironically. How is the fishing for bass, pike, or walleye in early June? With economy in the crapper there are lotsa deals going on up that way right now. Go on-line to the HLCOC site or to the Houghton Lake Resorter (weekly newspaper for HL area). Lots of quality stuff to do with the family, great places to eat and stay at without breaking the bank. The fishing is like most lakes, hit and miss but usually some what consistent. ;)

the fishing for bass, pike, and walleye will be decent in June. Ask for best places to fish either here or at the local bait shops. You will catch fish and have a good time. The toddlers will boat lots of panfish and keep you busy!

As a kid my folks would take our family to Manistique Lake in the UP outside of Newberry, we stayed a a place called Gronlin Resorts I sure they have changed hands but I can tell you that 40 years later I still remember those vacations with my family. You can find a good beach and some sunscreen and you will be in heaven. Not sure about the fishing but I caught my first pike off the dock and my dad fished with guys from Indiana that became lifelong friends and they did good on walleye and bass.
