I saw some guys just zipping through fish with some electric fillet knifes this weekend and i was wondering was it just their skill or is the knife that good? What kind would you suggest?

I have used the 9.99 wal-mart special for 10 years now or so. I replace it about every third year, but I'm also cleaning a lot more walleye and salmon than most guys are because of the clients fish I clean.

It will probably take you a couple limits to get used to it, and not chop them up, but after you get it down, you'll never go back. My biggest problem when I first started was cutting through the back bone.

I have the American Angler and I love it. Once you get the hang of it, it'll save you alot of time.

Not so much in my opinion. I'll take a big sharp old fashion fillet knife for those. For Perch, the electric can't be beat. :)

I have been using the rapala plug in knife and it works very well. I have heard some complaints about the battery operated ones due to them losing power after cleaning a lot of fish. We bought a 9 inch blade for the rapala knife and it works much better for cleaning the rib sections of the larger walleye and I would imagine you would want to maybe use one for Salmon too. I was leary at first about using them but I saw my buddys dad flying through some fish and I had to try. Now It's all I use.

Mister twister is a great knife for the money.

I agree with Gone Fishing and use a Forschner knife for samon and steelhead but for all other smaller fish the electric knife can't be beat. I have used many different brands and the electric kitchen knives with the button on the bottom that pushes straight in work the best because there is some flexibility in the blades. The Mister Twister and Rapala electric knives don't work nearly as well.

In fact I recently burned out a Mister Twister knife and went hunting for a different knife yesterday. Since I just moved last summer, I still had some unpacked boxes and one of them had blades of past knives. Here is the picture I posted today. I only saved two sets of blades.

As you can see I have had some experience using them and these are just what's left from the last 15 years or so. I have been using an electric knife since the mid 60's. Once you get the hang of it you won't go back.

John, how many electric knives do you have? :)
