I uses pieces of gray foam, it is four ply, 1/4 in thick=1 inch pieces from a retired trucker over in Escanaba. I have also used it to insulate my solar/well pump shack. It is a R-20+ factor for the inch thick pieces...I need more, but the block you are talking about is very good, and won't dull a broadhead like paper targets will...If you have access to a friend that does shipping and receiving work have him fill a couple cardboard boxes of the 2 part epoxy foam that they use to cushion parts in the crates...Works very good for the cheap price from a friend...
By the way...
Merry Christmas Mike!

I bought one this past summer and have found it to be everything they claim it to be. I think it is ideal for target arrows. I wouldn't recommend shooting a lot of broadheads into it as I fear it shortens the life span. Just as many as necessary. I used to use excelsior bails and this works as well, plus it is portable.

we use them for our outdoor range. i love them. have had guys shoot everything and the kitchen sink at them and stopped all they could throw at it. i agree about the broadheads. it tends to cut the layers after a few shots. doesn't seem to hurt it much but over time i can see it being a problem. and at the cost of the range bails i don't want to buy them every year. for the back yard get the black hole for less then $50.00, can't go wrong.

I've owned one for four or five years now and it works great. For broadheads you turn it on its side so the layers are vertical. That way you reduce cutting as much of the foam. I try to limit broadhead shots so it'll last longer and it's held up very well.

If you get one I would recommend buying the largest size you can afford, so you can move your shots around, otherwise the center will wear pretty quick if you shoot a lot of broadheads.

I purchased the knock off version of The Block. I think it is called the Black Hole or something like that. It is not as thick as thr block, but does a great job a stopping arrows and it is very easy to pull the things out. I don't think I would ever get a different kind of target. I shoot carbon arrows and I have had a few go through the target if I have the area shot up to much. That is where The Block is better because it is about 2 inches thicker. But the Black Hole is about 1/2 the price and works just as good. I would say I have put about 1000 arrows in it and it doesn't look like I have even shot at it much.

I have the large Block. I love it as a target, but I hate moving it. I would recommend the small one unless it is going to sit where you drop it. Mine has sat in the same spot for 3 years only being moved when I want to practice out to 60 yards. Plus, the weather doesn't bother them at all.

the block targets are good, but it can be a pain removing your arrows and it wasn't too long and i was shooting through them.

i have switched to the bag type targets, i especially like the whitetail series bags from gander mountain, cheap, last a long time and they can stay out all year long. the bands that held the target together would rust away.

i still use my block target for shooting broad heads into.
