Dropoffs, the island, & docks all hold fish there...& there's a few hidden offshore treasures if you look around a bit;)

i went there this winter ice fishing for my 1st time and did good on crappie but they ran on the smaller(7-9) size. I tried it early this year after ice out and left because it had lots of green slimy weeds floating all over the lake, probably better now, also i would think by looking at this lake it would be a speed boaters haven so fish early in the morning

Decent lake but don't try to fish it on a hot weekend day. Narrow and BUSY with tow boats all day. And I mean busy!!!
State record LM Bass is from Big Pine Island by the way.

Then why were so many ppl amazed when i pulled a 4.8 from there in the C.O.T.M's!
Ya its a good lake, be better if there wasent any high speed boating:dizzy: ya lots of traffic to contend with!

Mostly because it's been a bit slow over the last several years Carl. I actually quit fishing there many years ago because it was getting really hard to catch a decent fish from the lake. That has changed I guess... our little club caught several nice fish from that lake last year... I even got a BIG fish during a pre-fish outing once too...
So perhaps it's "back" as a decent bass lake???

Being that i been on this lake and no what its like during the summer, i don't think this would be my lake of choice along with a 40 minute drive , i have other lakes like that closer to me like Duncan Lake, now that lake can be crazy to fish on. I went there last year right at day break and just started fishing and there comes a water skier and this lake is long and narrow

i think bpi has always had a good population of decent fish.... that night in particular they wanted to bite is all... i think i had 2 fish for close to 7lbs. Kinda like wabasis - you know they are in there.... catching them is a different story:lol:

I didn't notice any amazement when you took big bass there that time, or when I did twice. All were won w/ decent BB & Bag weights. I've fished the lake since '95 & it's always been a good lake, in terms of size, for me.

That goes right to how the lake grew the 11-15 state record AND it's negative reputation among anglers. A combination of factors including the lake's structure, water, clarity, weed growth, forage base, etc... work together in a way that physically promotes big fish AND gives them some shelter from angers. Croton suffers the same stigma, & I shouldn't be here saying otherwise about either, but I don't believe C&R fishing pressure has as adverse effect as I used to.
Good Luck Everyone! ... All of us fishing trophy-capable bodies of water (other than pet-fisheries constantly maintained with effort and dollars :16suspect) NEED a little luck sometimes, b/c good numbers of trophy fish & challenging angling conditions usually go hand-in-hand for a reason.
But Wabasis just plain SUX!
