The wife decided to take a trip up north for the weekend and left me a "honey do" list so I decided to go fishing instead. I'm sure glad that I did. I hit up my a spot close to my house on the Grand River in Lansing. I carried my rod, some new spinners, my newly laminated license, and my trust back up bobber and leeches. After an hour of zero action on spinners, I switched over to my back up plan and made a few casts with no luck. I had decided the day was lost when I saw the bobber dive. I set the hook and the fun began... What came next I never expected.

After a couple minute battle I finally caught a quick glimpse of a pretty good fish. I kenw it was big, like a cat or sucker. It fought like a cat to be honest. Anyway, As soon as he saw daylight, he went back under. I was dead set it was a sucker, but I kept fighting. Finally I saw, to my surprise, a big walleye. I knew they were around this spot, but I didn't really think I'd catch one. Make a long story short, I finally tired this fish out and signaled a nearby boat to come and net it for me. On the end of my line was a 31 inch fish. I didn't get a weight on this thing but it was in the range of 8-10 pounds.

Only fish I caught on the day, but it will definitely be the highlght of the year.

Since I can't figure out how to post pictures in my thread, check out my uploaded walleye pictures.

Almost 3 foot tall and about 10 lbs soaking wet? Dude, that thing's as big as a Michigan Football recruit. Give that fish a few days with Barwis and you won't be tiring him out.

Nice fish!! As for the list, I will write one up too and leave it on the table. Trust me I can come up with alot more on my list that I think she needs to be doing. For some reason she never leaves me any notes anymore but she will ASK me if I can do something for her ;).

good job on catching the fish, now you better hide the pictures so your wife thinks you worked on the honey do list instead fishing. LOL

That's because the smart ones don't get caught. :D

Congratulations on the nice fish! I haven't even seen a walleye that big, let alone caught one.

I thought about all my options and decided that a picture was worth a thousand words. I actually gave the fish away to a guy next to me. He needed it more than I needed it on my wall and/or on my table. He was grateful.

The whole thing makes me honestly think more about the sacrafices we are celebrating this weekend than about my personal best walleye. To those who are reading and/or have family in the military thank you. Without them, we might not be able to enjoy the top class fishing that we have in this state.

Why not release it?
