Dad just called and is up in Cedarville pike fishing and enjoying life. He said that this is the strangest season he can remember as to what the pike are hitting on. At the beggining of the week, the Mepps lures and Rapala's were working as they always have but since Wednesday, only 1 over 24". He has fished this area since the early 70's so he "thought" he had it down to a science. Well this morning he saw a couple of guys out and noticed they were using live chubs and huge pencil bobbers. The guys said they have caught their limit each day since the opener. They then told Dad the chubs were $1.00 apiece!!! I told him I'd eat the bait!
QUESTION....I'm going up in a few weeks with a lighter then normal wallet and am looking for any alternatives...frozen smelt?
Thanks.

I've never had a pike turn down a small 4 to 5 inch bluegill.
Bring waxworms.

Talked to parents last night and the Pike have turned on again.....ON FROZEN SMELT!
Im going up next week and plan on getting some fresh smelt b4 I leave and put on a bobber and enjoy a few "pops".
I definatly will be trying the rapalas and the old reliable lures but will have a bobber out also. I will post results and pics if successful.
