Anyone know how to tell between flatheads and channel cats, I can't tell them apart and I know the limit is five for for flatheads and 10 for channel cats (these were caught by two people over enough meat also), I just want to be on the safe side in the future. It probably won't matter because I ussually catch and release, although my fishing partner wanted these. I just really would like to know. I am assumming channel cats because they were caught on chicken live. The biggest only weighed 12.5#

I can't post links or pics so here is the address to the picture.

Channel cats have a mouth further up on the face. A flathead has a mouth more on the bottom of there head. Also like mike said the forked tail. Also the coloration of them is different.

From what I see all Channels . I don't think the Flattys are really active yet. But, either way Cats fight harder than most fish and never give up. Great to catch. P.S. What river did you catch those in. Im guessing either the Flint or the Saginaw.

The Tibawassee, first time fishing there I am from shiawassee county. I tried convincing the neighbor I went with they were not good eating up there but he insisted on eating em anyway. Hopefully he don't start glowing . The fishing was awesome compared to the shiawassee river, I usually bank fish up in saint charles, it is ok in summer but has sucked this spring for cats. This is my third year catfishing... never really got into fishing until I started cat fishing, I love the fight.
