So I'm looking for a recommendation for a lake to visit this weekend - of course, I'm looking for the perfect lake which doesn't exist... so take my wishlist with a bit of a grain of salt.
Want -
1) Relatively close to home (Ypsi)
2) Has a boat ramp
3) Large enough to allow my boat (14', 40hp)
4) Large enough to actually run my boat at full throttle a little
5) Has some bluegills
6) Is not super popular and thus not likely to be highly crowded
...and preferably doesn't have a launch fee.
So, as you can see - I'm not looking for much
Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

I was thinking of Belleville or Ford lake, but I'm worried the launches are going to be ridiculously crowded.
For Belleville lake, is the DNR west launch off Rawsonville road reasonable for launching? Or is it a hand carry/jon boat only kind of launch?

i launch an 18 ft starcraft there, you should be fine...what you seek is near impossible..perhaps michigan center(near jackson) weedy stumpy and shallowish..or possibly south or 4 mile in pinckey area..belleville is normally aZOO on holiday weekends...............no wake/speed limit lakes(mott, kent, stoney hudson)offer respite from pleasure folk.....electrics only at heron and other smaller venues

Four Mile is another place I thought of... it's kind of scary how shallow it is though.

Anyone have any recommendations for particular areas to fish on Four Mile? I've only been out there once, and spent most my time working on the boat, and didn't catch a thing...

Yeah, most of the lake is only about 5' - and that deep hole is only about 15'... but it seems to turn out some good size 'gills and sunfish.

I'll never fish belleville again in my 14 foot aluminum. Went there last year, people have poor boat etiquete. Jet skiers flying past me 20 feet away, large boats flying by me at wide open throttle, almost swamped my boat. Ridiculous.

Four mile can produce some decent crappie, and small pike.
Fishing it isn't hard, it's getting to the hole that is.
If your boat is small enough, and you can carry it down, what about the marl pits just before you get to 4 mile.
South Lake is not too bad, but usually the launch area gets weedy in early summer.
Also, don't go screaming around the lake until you know it well. It would be easy to come up shallow real quick on south lake. But the nice thing about it is, there won't be any skiers to bother you. There's only about 3 or 4 houses on it.

Hit Four Mile lake for two days - didn't do too bad. A few nice gills, a big redear, and a couple 10" perch.
No problems with the depth on saturday, but got stuck in the mud yesterday approaching the launch.
