I'm going to Florida next week to visit my parents and we are staying at their place on Lake Istokpoga. Any of you guys fish this lake before? Any info would be great.
Thanks.

I use to live and fish that area for 10 years . It is one of the shallowest lakes I was ever on. Out front of the boat launch there are lilly pad fields that work. Turn right outa the launch and follow it down to the end. Everything you use will ahve to be shallow runnin baits. The area at the south end by the lock is also a decent spot. It's a tuff lake to fish now that it is commin into summer time. There is a good bait shop on the north end jsut shy of the boat launch. He ill have the most current info around and fantastic bait. Ya might have to switch over to drifting with shiners. Last I knew shiners were 20 bucks a dozen. I stuck to shiners and spinnerbaits, and topwater only. A better lake in the area is Kissimmiee and Lake Placid. Placid its more like a northern lake with sharp dropp offs and more than a foot of depth. But if your goin that far, ya might as well go and fish Okochobee. Make sure to stop in at Roland's marina in Cleweston for the best info you can get.

Thanks for the info. We are not really going as a fishing trip, just a trip we will be fishing on and I really wanted someone to say "it is the best lake ever and you will be able to catch fish on a bare hook!!!!". I'll probably just pitch some crawler harness' and hope to pick up some bass, crappie, and gills. Maybe we'll get some shiners. Who knows, again, thanks a bunch for the info.
I caught an 8 pounder out of Okeechobee a couple years ago on an actual fishing trip. We hired our guide out of the marina you mentioned.
