Hey guys...
Question....
Would you buy a 16' fiberglass skiff in brown, or a 16' aluminum jon boat ? Both have same Hp rating, fiberglass skiff can be setup a LOT of ways, and has more floatation in it...
like to hear your opinions please.......:D

Need more details to answer appropriately.
What do you want to use it for?
Which bodies of water use in on, etc?
See post about swamped boat, and would say no to 16' jon boat on LSC, especially, when it is rough out. (even though that was a bass boat in the pic - another poor choice on LSC when rough - IMO)
But if you are talking for canals and back waters, and calm days on LSC...could work fine.

Per the swamped boat thread, how about a nice, used Whaler Montauk? Clean 1985 boat on boat trader for $9,900. Full canvas, lots of rails for traxtech mounts. Knock them down another $750. Probably the same cost as a newer rigged jon boat or skiff and much more seaworthy for St. Clair.

I have an 18ft modifed-vee jon boat. The 16ftrs are pretty shallow compared to the 18', even the 17's are pretty shallow. I've been through alot with mine. It's a Lowe1860VT with a 50hp tiller on it. I've had it all over LSC and the Detroit River. Out to the Islands on Erie and all over Onatrio up to the Ottawa River. Never a problem except on real rough (3ft+) days on Erie. Now on the other hand I've also fished and hunted out of smaller 16-17ft boats of the same design and really recommend staying away from them if your going to be on big water at all. Here's mine on flat water Muskie Fishing the DR in late fall. I dotn have any experience with the glass skiffs but do with glass boat and I know they wont take the beating a duck boat needs to be able to handle.
Good Luck
Tim
