not sure what kind of fishing you like to do but small mouth bass fishing is awesome in the port hope area. just wade out about anywhere along the shoreline cast rapala countdowns, mepps spinners or drag crawlers along the bottom and im sure you will do pretty good

The water is still pretty cold in the the open areas of Lake Huron for Smallies. Look for protected areas that warm up first like the harbors of Grindstone, Pt Hope, Pt Austin, and Harbor Beach. Also try the mouths of the major creeks found on any atlas. I fished hard the weekend of Mothers Day (cold front) and the fish were not even thinking about their beds. If you are talking this weekend I would target 4-6 feet of water inside of the harbors, protected bays, or large creeks/rivers (highly pressured). Walleye will still be coming into the piers of Pt. Austin and Harbor Beach starting at about 9:45 PM and can be caught by slowly retrieving body baits (think 1 or two, not a limit, but the fish can be 10+ lbs). PM me if you would like specific details.

Fished off of Lighthouse Park and Grindstone last Sunday, targeting smallies and caught 30 fish between 4 guys in 3-4 ft of water. All fish were caught off some type of structure like boulders and reefs. We used watermelon tubes all morning and the fish were hammering them. When we got to Grindstone, a guy had just caught a 25 inch walleye on a rattle trap at the end of the point. Hope this helps, good luck to everyone heading out Saturday for the opener. Sounds like it's going to be a nice day.
