Well I'm starting this one. It's gonna be a good one. Lokks like the Wings called up Leino, Abdelkader, Downey and Kindl. I hope Downey takes to Pronger.

I hope Downey restrains himself from feeding into the Ducks game plan. Pronger will eat this kid for lunch if he don't. And I don't mean in a fight, I mean in hockey.
If the Wings play with the intensity they had in Game 4, this will end up a win.

I'm hoping the 6 goals they pumped in last game may have broken Hiller's confidence. That can be a pretty tough thing to deal with for a young goaltender in his position. Hopefully they can keep the momentum going from last game's pummelling and keep rolling.....

As far as I know, Abdelkader is scheduled to take Kopecky's spot, the others will be in the stands.

Since Kopecky now needs surgery from getting his ass kicked so bad. I never thought I could laugh at someone getting beat up, especially a Red Wing. I guess things change.

Don Cherry said last night that out of respect the ducks did not bang their sticks on the bench after the fight like hockey players usually do, because they all knew the kid couldn't fight. He said it like a code of ethics between hockey players. Beauchemin said Kopesky had it coming to him though.

That may have been my favorite goal up to this point. No one deserves it more in my opinion. His intensity and play at either end of the ice has been a huge difference maker for this team. How about that play by Datsyuk when he flipped the puck over the net from behind and then tried to stuff it in himself? If that works he makes the highlight reels for the next 20 years!!:D:D
ALL IN ALL ANOTHER SOLID PERFORMANCE BY THE ENTIRE TEAM.

That was too cool to see Helm get rewarded! Pavel never ceases to amaze, he just plain thinks differant than most.
I did not enjoy the end-2-end there in the 3rd, but the Wings still kept the shots against down.
How about Stewy? Some on here wanted to give him the boot not so long ago.

You guys were crucifying the member the other day (I forget who and don't feel like looking it up) for saying Helm was the best on the ice, and that Babcock should have switched up lines almost how he has exactly. Now he doesn't look so stupid huh? Sweet game tonight. Anyone else miss all the interference calls the refs had? Dats flips one over the net and can't get out front because he is clearly contacted without the puck is the one that sticks out most in my mind. And I'm not sayings only on one side either, cause Lids got away with one too. Just piss poor officiating this series for some reason IMO.

What a great game by the Wings, other than that short period where they sat back too much. Great effort all around. He didnt have to make allot of saves, but Osgood made some dandies when called apon.
I remember the Helm posts the other day too. The guys been great bring lots of energy to his team. His work ethic reminds me much of a young Chris Draper. Just a never quit tenacious player. Im glad he's in our line up....And while were at it, what about those that called out Stuart earlier this year. I think he's been our BEST defenseman in the playoffs. Been very physical, makes smart plays within his zone and has been good on the offensive side of things. Been really good for us.
And in the end, no matter who likes or dislikes certain players, im just happy we won the game and im looking forward to a very intense game 6 in Anahiem . Lets hope we can carry tonights play into the next and see this thing through...Go Wings!
I was at the game today :D what an awesome game to go too. The fans were great, Osgood made me look good AGAIN..he didn't have a whole lot of work but he made some nice ones.(It was because I wore my Osgood jersey ;) Helm was a beast out there and Hossa and Pav looked crazy good at times. Drapper took the pre-game skate and looked good believe it or not. I thought Cleary played a great game too, skated hard the whole game. Alex D was there too signing stuff for the fans.

As long as the piss poor calls go both ways, I don't mind it. I would rather watch a wide open and fast paced game. In game 3 the BS calls on the wings and then the blatant non calls for the ducks was just criminal.
I wouldn't be suprised to see this series go to game 7. Hiller is a hell of a goalie, his team just lets the wings get in there too many times a period.

,,,,his team just lets the wings get in there too many times a period.
It's not their fault,, it's Carlisle's. Changing lines so fast. Murphy and Redmond caught onto right away. Carlisle is giving up half the rink right off the bat. You can't win in the playoff's(or any game for that matter) with no forechecking whatsoever. He's getting out coached and starting to panic.
I will gladly say Stuart has stepped it up big time and is playing at a high level now. Thank you Stuart for making me eat my words :D

When Osgood made that glove save while laying on the ice, IMO it not only saved a goal but possibly the game as well. the ducks were coming on pretty strong and that goal would have tied the score and given them a huge lift. That 4-1 score does not tell the story of the game. Helm's goal with 3 something left gave the Wings some breathing room. Please, will someone help me out on the in the crease, not in the crease rule. On Helm's goal, Cleary was full in the blue area. For a second I thought they were going to review the goal. They didn't, and no body complained. I am :confused::confused::confused:

Hiller was crying like a baby after that play. I'm not sure on the rules, but Cleary's skate was tucked behind Hiller's leg and I think Hiller was looking for an interference call.
I give a hats off to Abdelkader for a solid performance.

Once the puck is in the crease i believe the opposing player can enter the crease as long as he doesnt interfere with the goalies ability to make the save. Seems there is some controversy over that goal because Cleary was actually strattling Hiller's leg, so technically he is impeding his ability to play goal. Probably shoulda been a goaltender interference call there in all honesty. Theres quite a bit of talk about that Helm goal in the sports cast this morning. But, like the sportscaster said, refs make mistakes and they all even out. Detroit was on that end of the stick in game 3 with their disallowed goal.;)
EDIT:
Heres the link to the goaltender interference rule and the loose pucks/rebounds section of goaltender interference.
http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26480
69.6 Rebounds and Loose Pucks - In a rebound situation, or where a goalkeeper and attacking player(s) are simultaneously attempting to play a loose puck, whether inside or outside the crease, incidental contact with the goalkeeper will be permitted, and any goal that is scored as a result thereof will be allowed.
So, after reading that, i can understand the non call because he was going after the rebound. He took one wack at it and his momentum carried him in, but he immediately backed out of the crease.

I dont like bad officiating, no matter what team it happens for. It disrupts the flow and in many cases strongly dictates the outcome of a game. I know i just want it called right and consistant for all teams. Its much better for the sake of good hockey that way.

Not to mention- and I have no idea why they did this- they no longer review those crease violations. Seems like a pretty easy review- but I know they no longer can review those (maybe since the last lockout even?)

Now that could change just like last year when Z won it when Mule went down but I think if you ask Ozzy he'll tell you, he just wants a cup and it doesn't matter who gets it. Great, we get it. Osgood = Tom Brady of the NHL. For those of us that haven't lived under a rock for the past 3 decades, we realize goalies in Detroit get crucified when playing poorly and jocked when they play well.
Lets not forget to mention the fact he's played on arguably the best hockey club this league has seen in the past 20 years (if not one of the best in NHL history) ... With the best defensemen in the league and one of the greatest combinations of scoring talent in front of him. Or the fact that GM's around the league - that may have a bit more knowledge than you (I know... hard to believe) - have given him plenty of respect with the millions he's been paid in contracts, yet also have the sense to realize he is good goalie and a product of a great system.
Now carry on with your normal routine of patting yourself on the back at every opportunity you can... and crawling under the proverbeal skin of every sports-related thread you join.

Tom Brady = Product of a great system
Chris Osgood = Product of a great system
You can throw all the facts at the wall you want, but at the end of the day the argument will still exist.
Both exceptional at what they do. And even better in the clutch. No argument there. But when a #1 puts up the worst numbers in the league for the regular season, how does it come as such a surprise when some people think he sucks?
Here's one to ponder... If you were a GM would you pay him top dollar based on "respect" and number of rings?

Ok. Conklin does suck. I have an opinion, there it is. Ozzy is better than Conklin. That's why he's playing and Conks isn't. Hasek was good, obviously. Vernon was good, obviously. And yes, I do remember that. You only have a few years on me buddy.
What I'm talking about is the future. Not the current playoff run. Currently, Conks wouldn't be able to win a cup. He just isn't capable IMO. Every time I say "new goalie," it's to replace Ozzy when he retires (still a ways away) or Conklin to have a better backup and carry on to replace Ozzy. And just to let you know, people don't always base their opinions off of facts.

Given our cap and the fact we have to lose some guys off the team right now to re-sign Hossa I'm guessing they won't make a move for a "goalie of the future" this off season or any time soon. Conklin was never brought in to be the guy after Osgood is done either, look at his age, he's pretty up there himself when you think about it. He was brought in to be the backup.

so you where 6 when the wings won the cup the first time in the modern area... and 7 for the repeat... im pretty sure a 6 year old is more worried about barney and finds than dmack and friends... i was 14 and just about 2 maybe 3 years into the whole hockey biz at that time of the first cup... so yeah, 7 years age difference kinda makes the picture a little more relevant. in the long run, i hate to be rude, but you really have no right recollecting a time period id bet my life, you don't remember, being 6 years old... conks is a great goalie, and i can't see how you can think other wise either. he doesn't play in the playoff because, in case you didn't know... ozzy is th starter and he won the cup last year. but i guess if conks was worth a damn, they would just over look that and put conks in... since they didnt, he must suck though right? i just had to chime in on the age thing, i got a big kick outta the whole, "ya only got a couple years on me" pretaining to de82 and you thing... 7 years is it? thats a tad more than a couple buddy:lol:

First of all who gives a flying rip how old a person is to recall anything. Besides that the age thing was brought on by DE82. Part of being a huge fan of the sport is knowing its history. Hell my 8 year old son can name all the wings and thier postion along with the saginaw spirit team. So i think people would be suprised at what kids can and do remember.
Now onto the Conks thing. He is just a back up and thats all he ever will be. He is a good goalie but the fact remains he is beter as a back up. To be honest wether DE82 likes it or not imho thats what Ozzy should be but he is the best the wings have now. Ozzy is a good goalie as well but i think he is beter when coming off the bench.

I have to agree with de82 because if it wasn't for ozzy there most likely would not be a game 7 imo. He has done far better then I thought he was going to do and should they lose Thursday no one can point a finger at him.

i give a flying rip... sir:lol: he cant weigh in on how a goalie played if he wasn't around to watch it day in and day out:lol: just because a kid can name players and positions doesn't mean he can fully understand what the game is about and how to gauge a players caliber. calm down and switch to decalf brother... its not a big deal.
and id be willing to bet my britches conks is a starter next year else where... and paid pretty damn well to be it as well.
and id be willing to bet my britches conks is a starter next year else where... and paid pretty damn well to be it as well. That's a good point, people forget he's making the league minimum, and look at the numbers he put up, you can talk about this and that but what it comes down to is he had a great reg. season even when the D was having problems. He might not be the playoff winning goalie Osgood is but if the wings win the cup this year he was def. a big part of it, playing in the playoffs or not.

I wouldn't go that far but he has been a big part of it. I am with you though. He had me wondering coming into the playoffs but thankfully he has been beter than i thought. As far as pointing a finger at him for a loss "if they do loose" in game 7. I wouldn't blame him. It would be on the teams shoulders.

ok here is a rip for you Duffy. I am a player, I was an assistant coaching when I was 16 and head coach by 18. I could judge a player where he fill in the best and help the team. Oh by the way when I was 8 I could tell you if Glen Hanlon or Greg Stefan had a good or bad game from skill level. For an 8 year old boy at this day of age who is able to name of a players, position, then I am willing to bet he is already on the way to know how to play this game is played which is something more I can say for a few peoples.
"Hossa can take care of himself, he's a big boy and after seeing that crap the ducks pulled I think Babs needs Downey and D-Mac in the lineup for game 7...See this is why I couldn't be a hockey player, I'm watching Hossa looking for somebody to hit and I'm thinking go knock Hiller on his ass, you want to get in the ducks head for these dumb little shots after whistles? Go take a run at Hiller and see how they like it."
This is a post from you DE82, why would you think of running Hiller when there backup is who, that's right Jean-Sébastien Giguère the same guy who knocked out the wings 06-07 season. What do you think would happen besides you wanting lower the Wings to their cheap crap tricks. The only thing that scuffle brought is a reason to get back to detroit, flip that switch and shove it back down there throat.
Conks sucks, Osgood great conn smythe, yea we got it you want Osgood. I will say one thing on Conklin. For two seasons now both with the pens and the wings when the starting goalie goes down he came in a stole a lot of games so the TEAM could get that playoff spot. Don't make or break the guy because he has not played in the playoffs because Osgood sat the bench in 97 and in 98 he won it for them.
You two keep on saying that your opinion isn't valid. Your opinion is valid but don't jump down someone for theirs because of age or anything. One more thing "IT'S NOT LIKE FOOTBALL" so quit trying to compare football to hockey.

Second, what would happen is Hiller would get knocked on his ass and the ducks would see how they like it when a player who is doing nothing gets put on the ice. It's called sending a message, something that gets done often, it's called "You run at our star players, we run at yours" Do I care if you agree with my opinion? NO! Do I think Babs will put a hit on Hiller? No...would I? You bet your bottom dollar.
Conks sucks, Osgood great conn smythe, yea we got it you want Osgood. I will say one thing on Conklin. You will find me sticking up for Conklin. NO WHERE have I said Osgood should win the Conn Smythe, but hey facts don't matter right? Lets just make crap up to argue

Just makeing a point about ages and sports.Along with what kids can and are capable of when it comes to a sport they love.
Now as far as gauageing players. Would that kinda be like your master gauage job on Stewart;)? Or the constant he played like crap get rid of him theroy others have?
Now as far as Conks goes. Who knows what will happen to him. With the way things can go i am not willing to bet my britches i will tell you that. Sometimes. Last year I was out on the river whipping the night they won the cup. Used to be an avid fan and partial season ticket holder for years until they had the lockout. Lost my passion for the game while they were off.
I am not going to go digging through your archives but I am quite certain from memory you have spelled his name 'Drapper' several times.

Remember what I said about jumping down someone. I guess I should have said belittle. That is why I am talking in hockey forum and not a spelling bee. I kind of wondered how these threads took off to 7 pages each. I mean, I have had arguments about wings in the past, but they are ABOUT THE WINGS. Bickering over spelling, and who knows the most about hockey, thats laughable. Glad that we now have a professional in the forum (LakerIceWolf). Sadly for you though Laker, I could see how sweet Steve Yzerman was as soon as I popped out of the womb (with a hockey stick in hand I might add). My first word was Yzerman, and I was only 3 weeks old. I scored my first hat trick when I was 9 months old. Broke my first puck in half from a slapper at 2 years old. Went to the NHL at 6, and retired early at 16. Now I've already coached 2 different teams to Stanley Cups. What now Wolf? Don't you realize anyone can say anything to glorify themselves on the internet?

No sense in hiding William...Its the truth. You best players have to be your best players and that includes putting points on the board when it counts the most. Its not that they havent been doing good things on the ice to contribute, but there comes a time when they need to get on the score sheet too. I have a feeling if they were able to find the back of the net with more regularity this series woulda had an entirely differnt look to it...Like a victory in 5 games, 6 tops. I dont care what anyone says, when those guys are are firing on all cylinders theyre just about unstopable. Would like to see that confidence and swagger back in our play tonight.
I know everyone hates Crosby, but ya know what, the guy can play and last night he stepped up and put his money where his mouth is scoring two goals in a decisive game 7. And the first one came 2 minutes in...Thats what we need from our top guys tonight. I still think if Datsyuk can get on the board that votes well for the Wings. I think he'll go on a tear if he can just get that first one.
