How do you score elk?

Hi all,I was watching a hunting show the other day and figured out that they don't call them 8 pointers or 10 pointers they say like 3 X 9 or something like that.Can someone tell me how they do that?Thanks,Shane

I don't know about scoring an elk or what a 3 x 9 you refer to is. But here's the scoop.

In the East we call 4 points on each side an 8 point, however, out West they call it a 4 point or a 4 x 4.

So a 5 point or 5 x 5 out West is a 10 point in the East.
