No Steve, thank YOU, it was getting hard to sort out new from old and hard to get the info out to all.

Others: thanks to Steve we have a new tool, please look it over, print it, and think up ways to improve it. Please do improve it and don't just make changes for the sake of making changes. I still have a good week or 2 of just plain thinking and question asking before anything goes into concrete. Now is the time for any major recommendations.

Thanks again.

One more public note about PIG ROAST suggestions. I love a good pig roast but pigs take from 8 to 18 hours depending on size to cook. Somebody has to be on site that much ahead of everyone else, and stay on site watching over the pig in order to pull it off. Think about it and if there are those dedicated enough to do it. Go for it.

I think it was Curdog that mentioned the Durand club. Anyway whoever it was, please email me (nixonra@mi.freei.net) and give me a phone number so I can talk to them about some stuff.

Thanks for the timetable suggestions. One concern........... will 30 minutes be enough for everyone to get through their events? I dont know how many will be there but it may be cutting it a little short.
As for the cooking, I would be more than willing to cook anything on the grill for everyone that can stay and swap stories and just gab about whatever.
I am planning on making this a weekend so the more to do the better. Any ideas of location? Camping available in the area would be appreciated.
I think that this will be a lot of fun so be sure to tell everyone that you know! All are welcome.
PS. Still not sure about the fly tieing :) Never done that before but willing to give it a try!

We are looking at maybe the club in Durand, and there are 2 campgrounds near there. I'd like to nail down whether the date august 19th is ok, so folks (me especially) can get campground reservations. As soon as we have confirmation on the club, (I'm still waiting for the exact name of the club so I can get their phone number and call them. Please help here) then we can confirm the weekend and then start all of the other balls rolling. Please save me a campsite, wherever we end up. I just got my first 5th wheel camper and am dying to try it out as much this summer as possible. (which with my schedule isn't much)

the schedule is a tentative possibility. I laid it out so everyone could see that if we do everything, we will only be able to do each thing for a short time. I haven't gotten much in the way of people's wishes yet so as those come in, the schedule will be modified to reflect what the majority want to do. By the way if you are the only one suggesting, you are the majority until 2 or more people suggest something else.

August 19th sounds good to me. I too need a campsite in the area. Please advise as to where Durand is, thanks.
After looking at the timetable, I was wondering if it would be possible to split the firearm shoooting up? I do not shoot as much as I should and I am sure that my shoulder could use the break :)
Maybe we could go a little longer with the events and be done around 5:00, 1700, then eat after that. Being done then still goves people a ways away time to get home and those of us that want to stay, time to eat and relax. Just a thought or two.........

Durand is on I-69, between Lansing and Flint. I cannot make August 19, I have a prior comittment to another event- a primitive skills and survival workshop that I host with two other guys. I'll post info on that later.

If the Date cannot be changed, and most of August is open for me, Well then yall have fun!

The Durand Sportsmans Association is at:

9551 E. Prior Road

OK everybody get out your calendar, august 19 is not good for Curdog, who first suggested the Durand Sportsman's club. Durand is very central for the lower 1/3 of the state. Nothing is central for the UP or Alaska. Please report now if another date in august is also possible.

My next best date is August 5th. Curdog has said he won't hold it against us if we can't move it, but I want to do all I can to get everyone in who wants to come.

I will post this on the New sportsmans breakfast topic in the Outing fourm. and I will be sending it to all of the email respondants.

Lets nail this down so we can get to work. Thanks in advance for your prompt responses.

Looks like its easing along. Here is a copy of the letter that I sent to the Durand Sportsman's Association. I hope everyone approves.

The Durand Sportsman’s Association
9551 E. Prior Road
Durand MI 48429

Dear Sir or Madam:

My name is Al Nixon. I am a subscriber to The Michigan-Sportsman, which is an electronic magazine on the Internet at www. Michigan-sportsman.com. One of your members is also a subscriber and has recommended your facility for an event we are considering. The member’s web name is Curdog, and I can’t come up with his real name at this point. There are 2 main reasons for the event. A chance for people to get to know each other, and for them to bring guests and thereby develop even more interest in outdoor sports.

The event is a day of eating and competition. There will be a breakfast, a picnic lunch and a barbecue supper. There will be approx. five sporting events, such as:
1. Rifle shoot off
2. Skeet shoot off
3. Archery shoot off
4. Spin casting for accuracy
5. And fly tying for speed and neatness
There will also be children’s events.

We have determined that there will be no alcohol allowed, and we will police up after ourselves so there is no trace left behind. We would like to start about 8:00 am and finish by 6:00 pm.

We would like to hold the event at your club site on a Saturday in August, preferably the 5th or the 19th. We need to know right away if that is possible and if there will be a charge, and how much the charge is. We also need to know what all is available, such as, clubhouse with kitchen what shooting ranges and what open areas are there.

It looks like there will be 100 or more people. ( this is purely estimate). Your members will be welcome to join in, there is a $10.00 fee per person, and they will be eligible for any of the food and shooting events including prizes if we have them.

I will call on Thursday afternoon, in hopes of getting some information as soon as possible. I you would like to, you may call me, at 517-241-1719 during the day, or 517-669-7602 and discuss any details you need.

It might be appropriate to mention, that there may be several attending who are looking for a sportsman’s club to join.

Thank you, for your attention

Al Nixon
Organizer, Michigan Sportsman outing.

I know! It has a typo, but its in the envelope now, and if that makes the difference we might have been outclassed there anyway.

Nice letter, I hope that it all works out. Let us know what you find out if anything. If it works, we need to come up with a few maps for people to be able to check out. Other than that, its just wait and see I guess for now. So far so good :)
