My title say it all. I had a spot where I used to find Morels consistently every year up until about two years ago and since then I haven't found any. The last year that I found any they built a bike trail about thirty feet away from the spot so I wonder if someone else could have discovered them. I always thought that Morels grew in the same spot yearly and thought this could explain why I haven't found any.

Usually, not always...
Many spots I have always found them in have withered slowly away or been on one year and not another then on again....for whatever reason. Wish I could explain why!
My best spots (un-logged-clearcut) have and seem like they always will produce year after year.

I'm running into the same problem. Spots that have produced early blacks have nothing this year. And a few of my other spot last year had no shrooms, Blacks, Greys, or Yellows. I've been picking from these spots for years. Now nothing.

Up north, on our property, we've had blacks growing in the same spot for approx the last 15 yrs.
Down here though, it seems that my dead elm spots for grey/yellows only produce for 2-3 years really good and then they fizzle out

I have been going to the same area for blacks for as long as I can remember and always pick about 500 there every year. The whites/yellows tend to grow where ever they please!

Thats exactly where these were growing, around a stand of fallen Elm trees. Do you think there's a chance of them ever returning or should I try to look elsewhere? It never produced more than a few dozen but they were always decent sized by the time I got to them and were more than enough for me.

Boardman, I'll need a location with roads and a GPS cord wouldn't hurt also, so I can verify your statement!!!:D;)

It never hurts to look but I haven't had much luck at some of my old spots.
