I'm trying to get my boat going and it is turning over real slow.. The battery has a good charge. I can turn the fly wheel easily by hand so I'm wondering if the starter is getting bad?

I also noticed after trying to start it the battery terminals are REAL hot.. burns to the touch hot.. Not sure if that is normal or not but I'm afraid to keep trying and blowing up the battery in my face?

most auto parts stores can bench test starters.......if it is an older boat.......check the battery cables....mine were green and corroded.......new cables made a huge difference

It sounds like you have poor conductivity from the battery to the starter.
I also suggest checking the battery cables for corrosion. Unhook them, clean everything with a little steel wool or sandpaper, and make sure everything is tight when you put it back together.

Other possibilities:
Worn cable that is partially grounding to the boat, motor, or controls.

Old wires may crack inside the motor or controls. Add in some moisture and one gets a partial ground.

Bundled wires that run from controls to motor can also collect water inside.

Hope everything works out.

Go though all your conections. Check clean and tighten them all up. It sounds like your not gettting enough juice to the starter . Have you tried to pull start the moter ?

Pull the starter out and test it. It could have water in it if it was in the weather at all, or you could possibly be hydro locked. If you can turn the flywheel, my guess, it's not hydro locked, but it is one option for overheated starter and battery terminals. Regardless, you have resistant somewhere. If your starter is bad it usually don't turn at all.

Well I figured it out. I had the battery charger set to 2amp trickle charge and it was showing it fully charged. I put it back on and switched it to 10 amp and it showed the battery as being almost dead. After the last 3 hours of charging I tried it again and she fired up quicker than my `05 Ram...

I'm new to battery chargers so I'm sure it was user error. I thought I was supposed to have it set on the 2amp trickle though?

i have seen batery cables fried inside the insuation, check for conductivity and resistance on your cables.
