View Full Version : A duck call opportunity

I did a boneheaded thing this past duck season. On one of the last trips I made, somehow my lanyard of duck calls came up missing. I am sure that it fell out of my wader pocket. I NEVER put them in there and the first time I do, they're gone. DOH!!
Anyway, I would like to hear about what brands and types of duck/goose calls that you would purchase if you were in my place. I have my favorites that I will likely get again, but I want to hear from the rest of you about what brands and types you like. I am 99% puddle duck guy, but if you have some diver call favorites, feel free to list them too.
One last question: When is Outdoor-rama? Last time I went there were tons of guys showing off calls.
TIA for your responses!

Of the 6 duck calls I currently have, my favorites are from Crackling Mallard Duck Calls out of Tennessee. Chester Mathias makes a fine call and I have two.

Duckman,
The only calls I use are Art Beauchamp's.
They are made in Flint and are my personal favorites. You can pick one up from The Fishing Tackle Grab Bag in Davison, or you can check out the entire assortment of his calls at Beauchamp's Hardware on Pierson Rd. You can pick from a number of calls and test them out there to find the sound you want. My personal favorite is the Original hunter but I also like the Competition Pro. These calls are great and range in price from $15-$25.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the replies. I have heard about Beauchamp calls before as well. I might have to check it out since they are right here in town.
I am a Big River calls fan. It's one of the first calls I picked up to learn with and I just feel comfortable with them.
Anyone else? I am surprised at only a few opinions on Duck calls.....

Wouldnt this topic be better off in the waterfowl thread? Not that I mind talking duck hunting.

After a six year lull...who cares what forum it's on.;)
As far as calls go:
Ducks: Primos Wench or a Hag
Geese: Bill Saunders Traffic or a Landing Zone (local call maker) short reed
And yes, we do best when I leave all of them tucked in my coat or in my pocket!

haven't tried the quackattacker, but like Michigander88 I like the GK slayer. I also like the echo dbl reed timber. they're all about $30-45.
they're all have a squeaky / chalky back end. don't know that it makes a difference to the ducks, but it sounds real to me!
and surprisingly, they all sound really, really similar. (that's all I gots to say about that. ;) )

I use the Primos Yo Sista and the Echo timber call. Both are resonably priced and sound real ducky to me....and apparently the ducks.:evilsmile
Good luck with your purchase, whatever you decide.

I use Art Beauchamp calls. He was a friend of my Dads. If I remember right, he was the champion of champions duck caller, not just world champion.
