My Triton is unmanageable around the docks and ramps. Cables are just old and bound up. I don't really want to go the same route though. I would like to add a Teleflex steering system instead.

I have an 18' boat, 150 hp Merc. The Baystar system says it's good up to 150 hp and I'm sure it would be a LOT better than what I currently have. The next one up in the line costs $300 more!!

What do you guys have on your boats (being more or less similar) for steering and how do you like it?

Talked to the Teleflex guy at length yesterday. Highly recommended the Sea Star Pro system. Said the Baystar would not offer enough to keep my boat under control at higher speeds.

Has anyone ever added this to their boat? Just wondering how much work it is.

I think I have the Sea Star on mine, but had the Teleflex no feedback set up on mine last boat (non-hyd) and it worked great. Could easily turn the wheel with a finger. That was on an 18' Grady w/150 Rude on it. Wish I could tell ya how hard it would be, but no clue hoss. Is the ne feedback set up an option? Might save some coin and be easier to install.

Waterfoul,

I would go with the Sea Star system as well. With the Bay Star you would be at the upper end & with a hig perf rig it just isnt worth it.

I have installed many of the units, its not a tough install at all. You have a helm to mount, hoses to run, & a cylinder back at the engine. Most of this is going to go in right where you have removed the old hardware from.

You will have to cut out the dash to mount the helm though. Most of it is nuts & bolts type stuff. You will have to measure to decide what size hoses are needed as well.

I can also give you a price on one as well:rolleyes:.

I have a BayStar on my 97 19' Fishmaster with a 135hp Opitmax and it works like a dream.
