of those of you who are passing up on jakes and toms for your BIG BOY! Since it's my first year, anything with a relative decent beard is dead meat.

My first bird was a 5" jake and I was tickled pink. Took me about a week and I finally figured out enough to call him in. Came on a dead run from about 100 yards. Be patient it will happen. Good luck.

Yep, your first one will be special. I've killed many many over ten. I hunt with the bow now(11.5 last year with a bow). It will happen. You will be a pro at it before you know it. Find the birds by scouting from a distance. Put them to bed and set up where you see them going first thing out of the roost. DON'T GET TOO CLOSE TO THE ROOST! You blow them out and you have to start over again. Turkeys are pretty easy to pattern. Afternoons are a great time to set up and get the Toms that weren't cooperating in the morning to react better. Most guys call too much. If he gobbled to your call, make him come find you. The big guys seem to go the other way when you call alot. I think they want to be chased.

My first bird took me about 15 min... I just got out of work and headed to the woods....As I was walking through the woods I kicked roughly ten hens and a couple of deer out...Frusterated not knowing if I just kicked a couple of toms out with them, I decided to let out a few clucks... no more than a second later I had three toms sound off...... I sat down against an oak tree I was standing next to and put my mask on... All three come in struttin less than a few minutes later..... I picked out the biggest one and let him have it.... 23lbs., 10 3/4 in. beard, 1 1/4 spurs.... I had a little luck with me that day I think... Dont worry.... Yours will come along... Just be patient and stay confident.....
