I just bought a great lakes boat to hopefully enjoy more Lake Michigan fishing. When it comes to GPS, here is what I would like to have but have no idea what models/brands or whatever to look for

I do not need a fish finder with it.

I would like something that shows my boat on the screen and a nav package (primarily all of Lake MI for now) that shows the depths of waters in my area...for example for you Frankfort fishermen I could look at the screen and see exactly where I am in relation to the "herring hole" for instance.

At some point I would like to add an auto pilot to this boat-do I need to keep that in mind when shopping for GPS or are they just totally independent of each other?

I would like to keep the cost as low as possible since I will only might be using it up to 5-8 trips per year on Lake Michigan.

lowrance, garmin, foruno, raymarine etc... . compare features and take your pick. you may want to check out the mapping software and find one that suits your needs best and see which units it's compatible with. i love my lowrance lcx-27c which is a combo unit. good luck!

I'm a Lowrance guy. Have been for years. You can hook just about everything except the "kitchen sink" to them. When we had the big boat, I had the Lowrance and radar connected.
