What kind of plans do you have for opening weekend? I have a place on a river and this is my first Trout opener since I bought it. I will have some friends up and this will be the first time my son will be along. What kind of traditions do you partake in or is it just another weekend until the big hatches come later.

We have permits for our place north of Comins so we will hunt turkeys in the morning Saturday and try Comins Flats in the afternoon. We also will try some creeks north of us. Hunt and Gilchrist.

I see you live in Commerce. So if you plan on fishing there, that means you will be part of stock-fest. I don't know for sure but you might have some people in a canoe anchored in your backyard at midnight of the opener. Hooping and Hollering and throwing retrunables on your lawn.
I hope your talking of a place up north. :)

We always go up for a week around the second week of May. You can get into some great hatches.......tail end of the Hennies and the begining of the Suplhurs. But in Michigan who the hell knows what might happen it could be snowing again.......:dizzy:

Doesn't get better than that. I'm going to camp somewhere in the area for the weekend go to the museum and just enjoy being up north for the weekend. Seems kinda pointless going to a river that open all year long but it such a beautiful stream.

19th straight Turkey Huntin'/Trout Fishin'/Beer Drinkin' Camp at my buddy's place in Rose City. After the best pizza in the world from Faull Inn on Friday night and a half-hearted hunt in the morning, we spend the rest of the day making rounds to the Houghton, Rifle, Big Creek, and several other "secret" honey-holes. Look forward to this weekend every year!

Firemedic,
call in sick and come on up! Your welcome anytime.
No I won't be attending the stockerfest on opening day, I will be fishing quietly on streams that seem devoid of life, cold, but with good company and the hope that a sudden unexpected warm spell will set off some bugs.
but there is no place I would rather be.

I'll be at Jeffs- then probably taking day trips to the area from there. Depending on the amount of people, maybe to the Jordan and a few other little homewaters I learned to flog on. Either way, I cannot friggin wait!!! When you finish that Jerry Dennis book Jeff, you gotta read "Fly Fishing With MacQuarrie". Just the sort of fish porn I needed leading up to the opener. I've got some good homebrew for the cabin too!

oops! LOL,,, the picture is from last year.
My fly box had growth immensely since last year.
I just finished a 7 foot 4wt fly rod I built on a Rainforest II blank. Put the reel on it, and tried it out on the lawn. OMG it's like dancing with an angle. You hardly know its in your hand.
Can't wait to try it on the water.
