I have a 1980's vintage MagLine boat trailer - I believe they were manufactured in the Pinconning area. It has 13" wheels. I would like to replace the wheel bearings with all new components (bearings, seals, grease, cotter pins, etc). How do I determine the size of replacement parts? Where should I go to buy them? Do I need to remove the current one's first then purchase? What is the BEST bearing grease for boat trailers? I removed and repacked them last year, but wish to replace with new this year.

Your best bet is too take the bearings and seal when you go to get the new parts, their are numbers on the bearing and seal that identifly sizes, or they can match them up. Most auto parts store will carry what you need. Try a Carquest or Napa store they usally have them in stock. A good grease to use is a multi purpose extream pressure wheel bearing type.

the axle will be usually either 3/4, 1 inch 1-1/6 or 1-3/8 or a combination of 2 on each spindle. yours is probably a straight 1 inch axle or a 1 inch plus inner and 3/4 outer. inner bearings are usually but not always 1 size bigger then the outer. just remember to match the races to the bearing you buy and replace all . any size bearing could have several numbers it goes by depending on the race it uses . not a complicated as people make it out to be especially trailer places that want to confuse you and get their seasonable markup. get the numbers off the bearings and seals and post here.
i can find you a reasonable priced link for online purchase.
if you want to stay local much cheaper if you go to a bearing store like Detroit ball bearing or auto parts store with your matched up numbers. at autozone it usually is a (number)size 5.they only sell them by matching up by car year so its something like a 1972 chevy truck axle. if you can buy non-chinese bearings .

Pulled the bearings and headed to the store. The boat place only had one set so they sent me to CarQuest. The set at the boat place were $14.99 and came with front, rear, seal, and cotter pin. At CarQuest they sold all pieces individually. $65. National was the manufacturer of the bearings I installed - was told they were a solid manufacturer. Used Johnson Marine grade grease - red. Replaced seals etc. Like new. All seems to be just fine.
btw, the front and rear were very different sizes. Good thing I took the entire hub along to match seals and rear bearings.
