Hey everyone, I need a new battery this spring and I was considering getting an optima battery. The reviews of it seem great, but the cost is substantially more. It will run, my trolling motor and that's it. So my question is: Is it worth it. They look to be quite a bit more expensive than a conventional battery, and if so what model should I get. The trolling motor is a 12volt 40 pound thrust minn kota.

Thanks,
Dan

I posted this in the Boating forum, but I figured I would get more responses here, and hit the people I am looking to get answers from. The everyday fisherman that have one of these.

Go with the D34 Blue top if you choose to get one. You'll run all day long and it will charge quickly when compared to a lead acid battery. Also, they are lighter than a lead acid battery.

I have been running Optima's in my boat's for 6 year's now. I love them, they really hold a charge well.

Here is an interesting link for you guys to look at. Scroll down to the bottom. http://www.cartechbooks.com/vstore/showdetl.cfm?st=0&st2=0&st3=0&CATID=21&Product_ID=3659&DID=6

It lists the battery brand and the manufactuer. I would assume if the 2 comparable brands have the same specs and came from the same manufactuer it came off the same line at the factory. I guess if you do a little research with this info it could save you a few bucks.

Yes, JCI makes nearly all the batteries you can buy these days... but they are price point manufactured in most cases and are NOT all manufactured the same. Where ever it says "JCI or Delco depending on model" JCI makes the higher level/priced ones. Oh, and Optimas are not made in the same factory as their lead acid batteries. Worked for JCI for 15 years.
