Hey everyone, I need a new battery this spring and I was considering getting an optima battery. The reviews of it seem great, but the cost is substantially more. It will run, my trolling motor and that's it. So my question is: Is it worth it. They look to be quite a bit more expensive than a conventional battery, and if so what model should I get. The trolling motor is a 12volt 40 pound thrust minn kota.
Thanks,
Dan

Interstate.
Riggers, radar, plotter, ff, ap,tv, and everything else and never a problem.
65 bucks it better than 140.

I use an Interstate for my Minn Kota 55T Maxuum. I can troll for 2-3 outings before I need to recharge. It sat all winter in the basement without a fresh charge from last fall and still had 60% juice. Hooked up the charger and in less than 2 hours was fully loaded for this spring.

Don't let it sit with a partial charge, charge it up every time as soon as possible after using it and it will last you a lot longer.
As for the original poster question. I have an optima blue top I used as a starter/trolling motor battery on my 14' and now am using as the starter/electronics on my 18'. It is still going strong 7 yrs old. However, for my 24 volt TM, I am using Everstarts from Walmart. On my second year with no issues, and I drain them almost every outing since my TM is my autopilot when trolling. The optima is nice, but not worth the money, IMHO. I got a good deal (better than 50% off retail) when I bought it, so it is worth it. However, they are way more expensive, and heavier than a lead/acid batter with the same capacity.

I don’t know to many people who use them, I think they have a hard time getting past the price!
I think I seen them in gsepan’s boat the last time I was playing with his merc. he is a MS member, maybe shoot him a PM and see what he thinks?

I use them in my boat, plus I know quite a few other guy's that use them. Everyone that I know, loves them. But, I pay less than half of what they retail for....

How would I go about picking one up for a great price?

I said it before and will say it again. They are awesome for their size, they recharge fast and are typically lighter than most others. They cannot even come close to running time of a big wet cell battery and cost alot more. If your not mounting them in a position where their on their side or something I don't think there worth it.
by the way I also picked mine up thru my brother in law for half price and ran them for 4 years, results were ok. I picked up another 3-4 hours running time per day switching back to a couple 200 minute reserve trogan wet cells on a 24 volt 67 lb bowmount
just my two cent
