Greetings:
As the 2009 trout season will open soon but not soon enough for many of us, we may find ourselves sublimating our angling fix by tying flies, sorting through our gear or maybe even sitting in front of a computer screen daydreaming of our future angling pursuits.
If you're like me, you may even be planning to seek out a new (to you at least) river to explore. I'm sure many of us carry a Delorme Atlas, or are familiar with Google Earth. But often enough, they lack accuracy in the more remote areas of our Peninsula.
Having said all of that, I found a nice data base that you may find useful. It has all of our watersheds and roads and seems to be pretty accurate. If you're planning a trip and are having trouble knowing how to get there, check this out. http://www.michigan.gov/cgi/0,1607,7-158-52927_53037-58858--,00.html and also http://www.michigan.gov/cgi/0,1607,7-158-52927_53037_12540_13085-31264--,00.html
Lastly though, let's try to keep in mind that that the menu is not the meal and the map is not the territory. There is no substitute for actually getting outside and fishing.
Good luck and have fun.
