I wonder if that buck was hurt or weak, from what I've heard/read they normally wouldn't attack a healthy animal, don't know though, still an awesome picture

Not sure of it's origin. Just got it in an email from a friend. Looked at it hard and couldn't really tell if it was fake. Sent it into Cuddeback and they'll find out for sure. I'll update when I find something out.

This is the response I got from Non Typical:
Bernie,
I spoke to the gentlemen on Thursday when he submitted it. From everything I have heard the picture does appear authentic. However we will not confirm as a company it is authentic.
However this is one of the best pictures I have seen in a long time.

The only thing I see that does not make sense is the big belly on the cat.
Looks like he's had his fill already.
I'll also predict that cat will be from at least a half dozen plces over the next year.
What a cool pic.

Something seems "off" with the pic.....just can't quite put my finger on it. I do a lot of photography, and can photoshop in my sleep....something just doesn't quite look right. Maybe some indifferences in exposure between the deer & cougar?
just my 2 cents

The deer appears to be dead yet there isn't any blood or drag marks in the dirt. If this is authentic it is one heck of a photo.......but this is natures way

i have heard the argument that the front leg of the feeder should be seen under the cats belly. any opinion on that?

i think that the leg of the feed would fall right where the body of the cat and the back of the neck on the deer come together and close off the background.
Wish there was more info on this pic, but that's an awesome picture for sure.

I thought there should be the feeder leg there too until I looked closer.
It's hidden.

The way the cat's head is in relative to how the deer head is suspended in the air makes it look odd to me, granted I could be wrong.
Looks cool though!!

hmmm maybe it is more real than i thought. save it to your computer in "my documents" folder. then open it so you can zoom in. there is blood dripping quite a bit from just below the deers lower jaw right where the neck starts. and it is the same grainy hue that the rest of the pic is.

How much would your average cat weigh? To me it appears by body size the cat outweighs the buck?? Would that be normal?

what catches my eye most is the slight shadow around the cat. There is no shadow around the cats left front leg. Hard telling these days whats real & whats not..........I'll also go with innocent until proven guilty.

Awesome photo!
I see nothing in it that makes me suspect its anything but real.
They didn't say it came for Michigan did they? That would be a dead giveaway! Everyone knows we don't have bucks like that here.

One thing about that Smitty is that if this is Texas they have some pretty small deer in some areas. I lived in the hill country just outside San Antonio for 9 years. I once shot an 8 pointer that field dressed 79 lbs.

2nd that, I lived in San Antonio for 9 years as well and my inlaws live in the Hill Country outside of New Braunsfel. The deer grow great racks however a large buck to them goes 120 lbs. I can see a cougar dragging a buck easy. If it's legit its a cool picture.

If that cougar would have let that buck grow another year he would have a real trophy to eat.

I agree it is a great pic. What I keep looking at is the deer's neck. The neck looks to long and at a different angle for not being able to see any of the cat's mouth. Awkward way for a big cat to be dragging dinner.
The cats feet are not sinking into the ground at all. With a weight like that you would and its muscles are not even strained in the legs. No deep drag marks behind deer or cat and only one photo of him dragging it. Would be a slow drag and nobody would post only 1. I mean really if I had a pic like that I would post them all. And a cat would yank it not walk with it.
Cool pic tho.
