Stumpy Fish

Hi,
I live in northern Genesee County. I am looking to do some shorefishing for perch in waters where I would not be hesitant about keeping them to eat. I think that the perch "run" is starting soon, right? I would mind traveling 100 or so miles for some good fishing. Can anyone give me an area that would be good? Also, proven tackle hints that work would be appreciated too. Thank you very much! :)

Swim jigs for them...trust me on this, you might get big perch on bait but I ALWAYS do my best when I'm working jigs. Micro Shad's by Mister Twister are one of my favorites(white body with a chartrues jig) 2inch twisters, get all the colors you can and fan cast, work them slow, fast, jig, pop, try every thing you can. Light line is also key when the water is this cold ;) and there is something to be said for tossing a small crank around too(under two inches) I like CD3 rapalas ;)

I'm looking for the perch too. I live in Grand Blanc travel to metro Det every day. I have been looking for perch from St. Clair Shores area all the way to Tawas. Not much yet, just a bunch of small ones. Most guys I've seen catching perch (including myself) are using perch rigs with small perch shiners. Some bobbers, some not.

If anyone has any luck let me know and I promise to do the same!!!

Thanks

I've just been using perch rigs with either walleye minnows or perch minnows or a mix of both. Right now around here you can't use to many different types of lures to fish the perch, because of walleye season being closed. If you can get out on a "part of the bay, or a non closed waters". I have had decent luck with fireball jig heads. As far as areas where the perch are being caught right now, can't really help all that much, the bite has shut off do to the bad weather we had up here. But, it should turn around in a couple of days, because the forecast is supposed to be 50's. So, far this year I had my best luck at Eagle Bay Marina in Standish. Caught 25 keepers between 6'' to 9'' and there back at least that amount of dinks. It depends on where you fish these areas too. I have had better luck in channels and river mouths than in between docks.
