Where do you start at this time of year for the gills? Shallow or Deep? Started fishing the lake last year later in the spring/summer and did well looking at going out soon.

Shallow!!!! Go out on the warmest, sunniest days and the gills stack on shallow water with mud bottom. U can catch quick limits this time of the year if u get on them and usually good ones. I always use lite line, a small bobber about 2-3 feet up with a small orange/pink tear drop tipped with a waxie;);) The fish sit rite on the surface cause thats were the warmest water is. Try to stay as far away from the fish as possible and make long casts !!!!!! good luck hope this helps Ill prob need some advice from u on walleye fishin sometime:D

Slayer,
Start on the north side of the lake,it warms up first. Like Bignuge said look for the shallow areas with a mud bottom and pick the warm sunny days. Afternoon is the best time because the water has had more time to warm. The best days you can see the fish porposing. I use a dry fly or a slow sinking fly behind a bubble bobber or I use a fly rod. I tip the flys with a maggot or a cricket. It's awesome to watch the gills smack the offering off the surface. Normally if I find the gills on the surface the specks are just below. I use a little red and white tube with a little crawler to get the specs.
Good luck,
Boone
