I hear some talk about slow trolling for crappies.
What time of year, speed and location on lakes are we talking?
Do you usually catch larger fish this way?
Almost forgot, what is best lure?

My dad and i used to do that up north over 8-10 ft. weedy flats with large teardrops and a minnow. We did very well like that.

It's a "southern" thing

In places like Florida with no rod restrictions, guys will troll with a dozen + rods until they limit out

I've done this with 1/16 oz jig heads and Mr Twister Curly Tails....Pitch it out and use the trolling motor on about 3 and get ready.....Water depth has varied but normally 8-12 fow over weeds....I use a 7' Light Action rod and 4 lbs test....Give it a try and Good Luck ;).....When the crappies are on using this presentation its great for a youngster in the boat to enjoy some rod bending fun........

but for now i think slip bobbers are better cause fish are grouped up and water very cold

with 3 rod law in place it only takes 1-2 people and yourself to have 6-9 rods with 2 baits apiece 12- 18 baits is enough

This works great on Bellville. We 1/8oz roadrunners with a walleye power grub (better tail action). Follow the channel and make sure you hit every spot that winds up against the bank. No bait needed. And hang on when a 10-12# channel cat grabs hold!

I do this all the time i even went out today and caught nothing

Actually this method works really good, it early spring before crappie go in really shallow for spawning, i went out last week and did really well in 20 fow. Another time of year and one of my favorite is mid to late summer and into fall when water temps rise and crappie go deep.

Most of the time i use a 1/16 ounce jig with a plastic grub (sliders), i even use them during spawn time.

The picture of the southern boys fishing is used more down south since most of the southern states have a no line limit, the method is called tight lining or spider rigging. Were this way of fishing works best is the lines drop straight down to a desired depth and you drift really slow. this way you know exactly how deep your bait is.

Hey 3 Bucks...Do you remember what part of Fletchers you were into the crappiemeisters?

I'll be headed towards the dam at Fletchers for some shore fishing for the crappie when this weather mellows out.

Used to drift with a strong wind for 'em. Never really trolled.

Paper boy, we head out of Jacks landing left about a half mile and fish the deeper water off that main point. No GPS last year but I will have one this year!!:D
