I'm planning a 3 day fishing trip to Kent Lake (Kensington Metropark) in July and wondered if anyone has fished this lake for bass. If so, how is it, any tips or suggestions, and are there any good restaurants in the area (we'll actually be staying in Wixom)?
Thanks for any info.

PS-We catch and release.

shametamer,
Great info! I'm looking forward to getting up there, and we'll definitely get a map (and check out the eats).
Thanks

What Bill said. Downtown Milford has a lotof good places to eat. That late in the summer try some frogs over the weeds ( if they come back) in the back bays. It's hard to get a boat back in there, but it will pay off. If the weeds are still gone, I'd look at any stumps I could find. Shouldn't be hard with thousands in the lake. Downed trees along the shore, edges of the channel, especially where it bends, all can be good.

I know some people that think the lake sucks. But i fished it for the first time last year and i liked it . You just have to locate them. Lots of great cover
makes you feel like your down south. Has stumps, fallen trees, river runs through it, weed beds, sand , rip rap, lily pads. Its like everything you want packed into one package. Last year a texas rigged lizard won my club tournament i got big bass with a wacky rigged senko.

Good Luck

I live in South Lyon, so I do go on Kent once in a while with my kids. I like it because of the "no wake" rule -- don't have to deal with all the speed boats that think they own the lake.

Unfortunately, it hasn't been a very good fishing lake for me. Don't get me wrong...we catch fish, but they usually run small and few and far between. The lake receives so much fishing pressure, which I'm sure impacts the fishery.

I never had much luck except ice fishing. Caught a lot of nice crappie. Remember its posted something like a 10mph speed limit on the lake.

Kent is a good bass lake with a lot of 2.5 to 3 Lb bass. It can be tuff fishing when the weeds get bad. My best lure last year was a Bandit Series 200 & 300 crankbait in pearl. The west side of the lake (the other side of I-96) is good along the shore of the freeway.

Here's one of the many I caught in that area last year:

Thanks for all the great info everyone!

Yeah, the 10 mph speed limit appealed to us. We're always looking for lakes that we won't get swamped by powerboats and jet skis. Don't get me wrong, they're also entitled to they're fun...but dang, can't we have a few more lakes set aside strictly for fishing? We were on a small reservoir last summer and 6 cigarette boats kept drag racing up and down the lake. It was insane.

We sometimes fish Summit Lake here in Indiana that sounds similar to Kent. Idle speed, lots of weeds, but lots of pressure too since it's the only lake around here just for fishing.

Thanks again...looking forward to the trip.

Nice fish Zip...I'd be happy to pull in 1 or 2 of those while we are there.

I REALLY wanted to fish Summit this spring, but never had the time. From my research it is similar to Kent, but Kent is not as deep. July can get pretty tough out there, but check back closer to the date for reports or feel free to PM me before you come up, I'll help if I can.

If you are staying in Wixom then you are not far from Novi and there are lots of restaurants there. If you like good Italian food check out Maisanos Italian Restaurant on Novi Rd. just off I-96.

Summit was tough to fish last year because they treated the weeds. I have not been over there yet this spring.
