Lots of great info on how to catch the really big ones, with video tips, links to gear and bait suppliers, events, and what not. :fish:

Here's a segment on carp fishing that was on Michigan Out of Doors:

I went out and tried for some carp today and didn't have any luck. I'll have to do my research on the site that you posted.

We saw a lot of fish today but they never ate any corn off of the bottom, a hook or went for a worm blob hook either. The water temp was only 49 degrees though so I am wondering if that was the problem. I guess I need to do a LOT of homework to catch one of these hogs.

After reading the article I think I found a few reasons why I didnb't have any success. The number one reason being my setup. Looks like I need to go with some sort of a bolt rig for starters. And the second problem was that I didn't sweeten the feed corn when I boiled/softened it. I'll give it another go this weekend and see if those two things help at all.

Thanks for the info.

If you're located anywhere near Lansing there's a Michigancarp outing planned Saturday at the Grand River in Lansing. I may mak the pilgimage if the forecast weather looks pleasant enough.

Kent Lake in Milford is full of carp. Try the turtle head area. I use canned sweet corn and a slip weight and have pretty good luck. There are some that have caught fish to 20lbs from the bank.

I've found that the best fishing set up for carp is a small trouble hook baited with corn with no weight. If the carp feel the weight sometimes they will drop the bait. I would find a good area where they frequent, cast your line out and throw about three handfuls of canned corn around where your hook is placed (Its not a bad idea to dump the corn juice in the water as well). Then all you have to do is leave your bail open and wait for the line to start spooling out.

If you want to do some bow fishing, the fish are going to start spawning soon and you will be able to find them starting to school up in shallow water. I would look in areas that are about one to two feet deep covered with lily pads. If possible I would drift or sit in these areas and shoot them as they pass by!

Is your bait touching bottom under that bobber and if not how far off of the bottom do you tend to run it?

No bobber, just let it sit right on the bottom.

That's the way I do it when targeting the old boys. Usually with a small sinker just to keep down there(I usually Carp the Clinton) and a bell, channeling the spirit of my grandfather.

With a surname that has Karp in it, they run in my blood :D
