Manistique Lakes

Some buddies and I are planning a spring fishing trip to the UP. We are thinking Big Manistique Lake. Anyone have suggestions on prime time for a spring trip?:help:

On the south lake the end of may all thru june is definitely the best fishing, I haven't fished the big lake during those times but I'm sure its just as good. And this is for all species too.

watch the curtis weather..early spring go for the week before memorial day weekend...late spring go for the week after memorial day weekend

I've always found South Manistique to be a more productive fishery than Big Manistique. Although I did run into some nice smallies on Big Manistique last year, South Manistique is always more fisherman friendly.

We caught some nice gils and a few Walleye on the South Lake while grouse hunting last fall during the end of September. This has made us want to go back for a spring fishing trip.

South Manistique used to be, and probably still is a great fishery. Used to go up ever August and do very well on Eyes and Pike. Im not sure how the stocking has gone up there in years past but I would guess it is still great fishing. Seen my Dad catch a 16" brook trout out of there bobber fishing for northerns bye the island one day. I thought this was pretty rare, but who knows. Beautifull fish anyways...

I know I will probably take some heat for this one, but you should look at fishing the St. Mary's. I would assume that you are going to be targeting the eyes, and if you haven't dialed in the Curtis are for sure yet, I would say check out the river. It is a phenomenal fishery for walleyes.
