I assume you mean Kabenung Lake, about 1/2 way between Wawa and White River. I will be up there the third week of September. I have been there for the last several years at the same time.

Last year I caught an 8.8 lb. eye trolling in the morning fog. Overall the walleye fishing has been inconsistent for us. But we also insist on trolling when we watch a lot of anglers catching them with a jig. One evening we boated 2, while another boat (anchored in our favorite run) caught 6 by jigging.

We also picked up a 26# pike last year while trolling for smallmouth bass. What a hoot on 10# mono without a leader.

According to the MDNR, smallmouth don't exist in the lake. We catch a lot of 3 pounders while trolling brightly colored floating rapalas along shorelines with broken rock.

There are whitefish in the lake. We haven't found any Lake Trout, although it is a big body of water with very deep holes.

There are several camps on the lake. The bottom on the lake is up and down all over the place. It is easy to bust a lower unit if you don't know where to go.

Let me know if you want more specifics.

Brings back some memories. I remember about 1962 or so my father, me, a friend of my fathers and his son made the trip up there pulling two boats.

The paved road flat out ended at the side of the lake.......nothing but trees for miles ahead. We motored thru about 3 or 4 different lakes/rivers till we found an island we liked to camp on. Stayed for 7 days......either a pike or eye on every cast...... always wanted to go back but never had the chance, guess the road goes way past there now.............good memories....even seen moose swimming the lake........not a camp or other fisherman on the lakes/rivers had the whole place to ourselves....
