This spring is i am going to be buying a boat, and i have been looking up inland lakes here in Michigan to go fishing on. Ive been tryin to choose which lakes to try out first but im not sure where i should start. I read about Fletcher Pond, Houghton Lake, Higgins Lake, Indian Lake, Mullet Lake, and Burt Lake! I live in Metro Detroit in Utica. I like to fish for Musky, Pike, Large and Smallmouth bass, and on occasion walleye. I was wondering if anyone has been to any of these lakes and how good the fishing is on them. Any info helps. Thank you for ur responses!!!

All those lakes are good but you have more fish in your neighborhood than all those lakes put together. Lake Sinclair, Saginaw bay, Detroit river, Lake Erie etc etc etc.......just about any kind of fish you want is there in great abundance...... Just trying to save you some gas. If you really want to know about the lakes you spoke about go to Wal Mart and pick up a Sportsmans Connection book for the area/lakes you want. They tell you contours, plantings, net samples etc etc.
Good luck....

depending on the size of your boat, might dictate which lakes are best to seek what you want..musky inland lakes are fewest in number..largemouth are found in practically every lower peninsula lake..pike are in many..smallmouth in the deeper, clearer, river connected bodies of water....................fletchers is weed and stump filled full of most species(no musky, sparse smallies)..houghton also devoid of musky....higgins pike are deep water dwellers more of perch, smallie, rockie and lakers...indian?in the u.p.? has bout everything, but not the fishery it once was.....mullet and burt are connected(inland waterway) have everything..but are tough on a new guy and get quite pleasure boated up after memorial day(kevin van dam 'cut his teeth' on burt)..............you might also look at long lake(alpena), black lake(east of burt n mullet), hamlin lake near ludington, north n south lake leelanaus..........should you like info on a particular u.p. lake or a smaller body of water feel free to p.m...but st clair/erie/detroit river/saginaw bay do offer all these species if you can keep the white bass, sheephead and walleyes off the hook!:evilsmile

I just bought a DVD with many lakes though-out U.S. about 300 lakes in Michigan. It has lake contours & depths much like the chip for the GPS in my boat. Very nice, $ 20 dollars at Franks.

The Bay can get VICIOUS in a matter of minutes.
I remember being out about there 7-8 miles a few years ago with a few guys and it was dead calm (you could see the minnows just below the surface swimming) and within 5 minutes we were trying NOT to plunge the bow thru the waves that came fro "no where")
You will always need to be careful & fish according to conditions.
Seems like the Bay always claims at least one boat or life every year.

No... you look just like Krusty so you ARE Krusty. I don't look anything like that little kid from the Life cereal commercials... so I'm Mike.
Unless you're about a 5'8" tall, 110 lbs, blonde/brunette chick with a nice... um.... "set" you cannot call me Mikey!!! LOL!!!
As for the trihull... I'd stay pretty close to shore or protected waters. I have a trihull in the back yard that's seen some pretty sloppy stuff and it will break your back and jar every filling out of your head in rough water. Not to mention the shalacking your boat and equipment will take. Even my flat bottom Tracker rode better than my trihull. Just be CAREFUL!!! Not saying you can't use it for those bays... but be CAREFUL!!!

I do about 90% of my fishing on Higgins and it can produce some decent fish. Soon as the ice comes off you can troll for browns and rainbows along the dropp off pretty easily. Then once bass season opens up they have a good fishery for smallmouth. They are a blast to catch in shallow water and we just let them go for another day. Then during the summer months Lake Trout are the main target and there are some biggins in there (i have seen lakers in the 30 lb range come out of there). Let me know if you have any other questions on this lake and I can hopefully fill you in.

Keep an eye on the weather and there will be opportunities to fish Lake St. Clair, which is one of the best musky and smallmouth lakes on the planet, and excellent for pike, too. Walleye fishing's been better in Saginaw Bay, Lake Erie, and the Detroit and St. Clair rivers lately.
Anchor Bay should be OK when the wind's not too strong and there's a westerly component. The lake ain't too bad when you're not far from the upwind shore.
Dunno about inland lakes near Utica. Stony Creek lake has some bass, pike, and large crappies, but it's a very shallow lake. Not too many reports of big fish.
The best nearby inland lakes tend to be a bit to the west, in Oakland County. Some good bass and pike lakes, such as Kent Lake, Wolverine Lake, White Lake, etc. Kent Lake I can vouch for, and it has access out the wazoo.
Enjoy! :fish:
