Well, we had the exact opposite this year. Went up between X-mas and New Year. In the first 24 hours we iced 7 nice fish, 6 pike and 1 really nice Walleye. After that, nada, and we fished for 5 more days.
The same buddy I went up with went back up in Feb and with something like 10 guys fishing they managed 2 pike and a few 4" perch.
Not as good a year as we have had up there before.

I live 2 mile from the lake. It was a tough year very little action for me out there. It's usally worth the travel for me to fish burt or mullet. Black is a great lake for a 30 pack and a bunch of buddys. alot of time on your hands to socialize!!!!:lol:

this year i thought was terrible for many targeted species..like the eyes...i never saw one...saw a few pike and a few muskies, but never connected...but the sturgeon this year were rediculous! videoed alot of them....we saw so many fish people didnt believe us...saw 9 fish the day before spear opener, and totaled almost 40 sighting this season!
I just started going to watch the sturg, I didnt care about the other fish afetr seeing these, I was only able to fish weekends but..I made the 2 hour drive every weekend for it! It was the season of a life time! I saw things other angler wont see in thier entire lives on almost a daily basis!

That would be awesome!! I have yet to see one in the wild. I have heard they frequently "breach" during the summer- have you ever seen that?

I have never seen the "breech" but have heard about it...I dont live on the lake or near the lake I travel there to fish in the wnter, but family members have witnessed some interesting sites out there...

My parents live on Burt and 2 years ago just before memorial day there were a dozen or more sturgeon spawning in front of their neighbors house. My Dad said it was an awesome sight to see.
