Just wanted to give an At-a-Boy where it needs to be done.
Bassdisaster picked up his Champion last year and had some problems by the end of the season. You guys know how it goes! used-as-is...
After buying the repair manuals on CD and nice powerhead he has the Blackmax 175 purring like never before i do believe!!
Idle is a bit high for this vid but test and tune isnt done yet on lake X

Congrats again BD on a D** fine motor!

Well since POWG decided to break the ice, I decided I may as well go put her in the water and see, and am I pleased:) Im not a MERC mechanic, just a guy who feel's he's capable of doing his own work! Compression tested the old motor and it had 4 cylinders at 110lbs 1 at 90lbs and 1 at "0"lbs, hole in the piston, compression tested this used powerhead that I just mounted 130lbs +/- on all 6 cylinders!

I went to Little Whitefish lk, launched and fired up the Black Max 175, and no the idle is not too high, if anything its a tad on the low side:dizzy:
Did 5 laps around the lake and its running like the name on the boat. .... a ChampioN!
Dang it feels good when a plan comes together!

Lots of worrying and wondering if I made the rite decision to buy a used powerhead to mount on the BM, but now that I can go about 70 MPH im sure happy I went that way!
Last years motor was a total dog compared to this one even befor I lost that 1 cylinder:evil:
Not to mention last year I ran 22 and 21 pitch prop's, This year I was optimistic and mounted the 24 pitch prop, and ya she JUMPED up on plane and literally FLEW accost the lake:yikes:

Brandon, maybe we can get in a prefish outing on Croton, hammer some Bronz backs eh!

FYI I set the SPRING FLING CLASSIC date to May 10th partly because you said you couldent make the 17th:yikes:

No worries, if you do make it thats awesome, if not we'll have to rub it in with pictures of our MONSTER smallies! lol

Carl... make sure you break that motor in a bit before you go hammering around the lake all day. Rings need to be seated, not thrashed on day one. Hate to see you have issues with it after all the work you did.

YES I have been told to take it easy, and to run heavy oil for a while, so its gonna smoke a little OMG
I only opened it up 1 time and it easily hit max RPM, GPS not hooked up so who knows how fast I was moving?
But ya Im gonna take it easy for a while anyway! Even then its a good idea not to excede recomended RPM's!

Never bad advice on a fresh rebuild!

I'm in for the prefish...just waiting on STUPID April 18!

Sorry abut the mix-up on the date:hide:, my mom just agreed to watch the little ones for 2 of the days I'm gone, so I just checked the calendar to see when the 3rd Sat in May is...it's the 16th!:yikes:...which means I'll be shipping out several days before that. I hope the ice has melted up there by then...I cut it close a couple years ago...but if you wanna find lakers shallow, or watch twenty 5#+ splake battling each other for your rap in 2-3fow...you gotta get up there early and find COLD water.;)

But we'll hit up Croton befor I leave...I'll show you some 'o my haunts I haven't shown Mikey.

Got to love Croton in the spring, In the last 2 years ive seen more smallies there than anywhere ive fished!
Best thing about early season fishing is the weed's are just getting going, but the fish are still relating to them!
