I would like to fish for coho/steel/eyes mixed bag in the st.clair river near black river, I have never fished there before. I am set up to troll downriggers if necessary, but I don't know if that is how you fish there? Can somebody help me out with best method and time of year to fish there? Thanks

Now is the time and yes you can troll for them, its only going to get better as the water slowly warms and the smelt and baitfish start moving in.magnum spoons is what you should use. Most guys are vertical jigging right now.I would start out down river some near Marine city and then work your way upstream.

Most of the time I troll with downriggers. My most productive method has been a bomber, about 50' back from the ball, and run the ball about 5' off bottom. Once you troll the same area a few times you will get used to the depth changes and be able to hold a line that doesn't have you adjusting depth every couple of minutes. Check your lures a lot though, as you will touch bottom and pick up weeds.

Sometimes they will hit a shallower bait. I also use bomber long a's behind a ball (but only about 15 to 20 ft behind the ball). Try puttin an inline sinker (5 oz.) with a 6 or 8 ft leader. Run that one about 10 ft off bottom. Set it up so the shallower bait is behind the deeper baits. I troll both upstream and downstream along the shelf. 3 lines this year! Can't wait. By the way... First post on this site! Hello everyone!
